Conceiving number 2 - just as easy?

We were amazingly lucky conceiving dd on first cycle...is this a good indicator for conceiving number 2 or not at all?

Since finishing breastfeeding I have had 2 regular periods, never had any fertility issues before butvamna worry wart and worried we will have issues this time round as it was so easy before.

I am 31 by the way.

I think its pretty random TBH. Number 1 was first cycle for us, we have been ttc number 2 since November and have had 2 mc and today I got a BFN for this month (4th month in a row since last ms) :(

Hope you have better luck :)

With ds first try = bfp. No way 2nd time round. 7 months for a BFP, then mc. Then 4 for another BFP.

I'm so sorry to hear that chucklemonster, really hope you get your bfp soon!

It sounds like its harder second time round...that's why I've started to worry....

Thanks Alabama. I know people who have had it easier second time round, you just can't tell.

First and second were relatively easy- dd1 was 1st cycle, dd2 was 3rd currently ttc for 3rd and final dc and this one is trickier, on 8th cycle now. We're really lucky to have 2 healthy DDs with no problems during pregnancy but we don't feel finished yet. Two of my friends have had no problems concieving all of their dcs (3 each).
I think it's totally random.

Not for me - and there is a whole group of people on a long-running thread on here who have trouble TTC no. 2.
I was one of them - got pg with DS in 3m of concerted trying, aged 39 - pretty good going, I thought! So thought I'd have as easy a time second time around. No chance.
No luck at all for nearly 2y; then got pg, MC. Had nothing for a whole year; then got pg 2x in 2011, MC both early. Finally managed it again in Jan this year - DS was 4 by then. Now 27w and counting - so far, so good (touch wood, FX, God willing etc.)

However - one thing that may have created a problem for me was my cycle changed after having DS - went from being 28-30d, down to 26 with slightly early ovulation (around D10, not D12 as you might expect). I didn't find that out until I got the Ovulation Method book and started checking cervical mucus - and that was at the end of 2010, and led to the 2 pg in 2011 and the one in 2012.

But everyone is different - if your cycle changed after pg though, and you haven't already looked into recognising your fertility symptoms, then it might be a good idea. :)

I got pregnant straight away with both. I didn't even realise that I wad pregnant with DC2 until I was nearly 10 weeks. I thought I hadn't started ovulating again after coming off the pill. Good luck!

Alabama100 · 17/07/2012 16:08

Thanks ladies, how would I know icy cycle has changed? We used those ovulation tests last time.

Every time we have conceived its been 2 months after stopping using contraception. Admittedly it's only been 3 times but it does seem a big coincidence.
