This was a bfn really, wasn't it...?

background: I had a mmc and ERPC in May, one AF 5 weeks later (and definite bfn just before) and am on my second cycle. Haven't been charting or using ov tests, just dtd every other day. It's now cd23. My cycles are usually 30-34 days, but I was expecting a bit of disruption following the mc. However, I wasn't expecting to start spotting on Friday, cd20. I assumed it was going to be a mega-early AF as a result of the disruption, but AF never arrived. Since then I have been spotting a bit, but nothing more than that, and am mega-bloated (my first symptom of pregnancy both times I've been pg). I decided to buy a test for this weekend and do it on sat, in the hope that this is implantation bleeding. I didn't know I had a test in the house, but found one in the cupboard tonight...a stupid impulse made me open it (why? On cd23, why?) it was a first response early one. However, to pile stupidity on top of stupidity, I ran out of wee as I did the test and only managed a tiny dribble - no way did it get the 5 seconds the instructions say. The control line came up, but only faintly. I cursed myself for wasting a fiver and threw it away.

Obviously, the devil on my shoulder made me take it out 15 mins later and look. The control line was a lot darker, and there was the faintest positive line too. But this was just an evap line, wasn't it? I tested stupidly early and didn't wee enough...so it's bound to be an evaporation line? I've just never seen one before - bfns in the past have always stayed bfn...

Id say it's probably not an evap line, first response arent well known for them and if they do, it's normally hours later if they have been taken apart for closer scrutiny. I personally have never managed to get a first response evap and I have taken many tests apart to look at them against the light/squint/ stand on one leg and focus on the window never seen even a hint of anything unless i really was pregnant.

If you saw even the faintest line in the pos window sounds like its a positive, poas again and update us!

jessiethecowgirl · 17/07/2012 13:07

I don't think first response get evap lines. I think its a positive!! poas again, maybe wait til tomorrow morning, first of the day, and update!!

InchyInchy · 17/07/2012 13:13

I've only ever had evap lines with Clearblue tests - that's why I stay firmly away from them now.

CD23 is very early but you might have just ovulated earlier than normal?

Try again in the morning if you can resist or in a couple of days if you can.

Fingers crossed for you.

SparklyGothKat · 17/07/2012 13:15

Is it a pink line? Sounds like it could be a positive line

HappyJoyful · 17/07/2012 13:16

I've had 5 cycles of IVF and on my last go mid way through waiting for the all important 2 weeks I got incredibly low and stumbled across an old poas, the very, very, very feint line (I actually took it to show a friend for 2nd opinion as I thought I was going insane) is now 18mo old dd.

As others say, I've also sadly studied many poas and never seen evap line.

All the very best of luck.

Inchy, that's what happened to me too - I got an evap line with clearblue and now never buy them for that reason. I have had plenty of bfns with first response (poas addict Blush) but never had an evap line before. I had mentally dismissed this as one though, just because I messed up with the test and it's so early - but you guys are making me dare to hope a bit! OK, I don't have any more tests in but I will get one tomorrow and do it on Thurs with fmu...

Keep us updated!! :D xx

I'm sure as long as there was enough wee for the control line to come up then there should be enough wee to get a result - I'll keep everything crossed for you I know the stress of waiting to POAS.

Alabama100 · 18/07/2012 11:18

Any news? Fingers crossed for you x

lurcherlover · 19/07/2012 07:13

Bfn this morning Sad. Perhaps evap lines on first response tests do exist after all...

So sorry you got a bfn...could you maybe do a digital test to be 100%? X

InchyInchy · 19/07/2012 08:54

That's crap. It's still early days yet thou?

Look after yourself today, it's always a disappointment. x
