been today he says by looking at my tongue, am tired and stressed, and have low back pain, (which all true) says its my spleen causing the problems, so he sugested acupuncture, for 7 weeks once a week, also a tea, and herbs, which cost a fortune, so really want to know if its worked for anyone befor i commit.

trace2 · 27/02/2006 21:21

a friend of mine who has been having problems conceiving looked into this but based on information and advice decided against it as with chinese medicine you can actually do harm as well as good.
Nots ure fi the same goes for acupuncture. I personally used acupuncture to try to bring on labour. I did give birth the following day (12 days late) but of course will never know if the acupuncture helped or if the baby was just ready then.

What other complimentary things have you tried?

Good luck whatever you decide.

angus catus, vitb6 primrose oil

trace2,

Would be most wary of paying out cash for something that may not work at all. Seven weeks down the line for instance you may still have your back pain (perhaps a chiropractor may help you more). Saying its your spleen causing all this sounds a bit dubious to be honest with you.

Do not self medicate with AC as this can actually make any underlying hormonal problems worse (particularly if polycystic ovaries is an issue).
If you want to take AC and such like, your best bet instead is to seek out a qualified medical herbalist.

Do you have a diagnosis of the underlying fertility problem?. I would concentrate on seeking out a diagnosis first and foremost if one has not been given to you.

hi yes i agree, been referd to a fertlity clinc, its just the waiting, told its not worth paying to see him, as everyone does, so not get in any quicker, i think its because am 40 this year and now am getting to old to wait much more.
all blood tests show am not ovulating, so its just finding out why

trace2, for whta it's worht, this is my experience.
when i was trying for my first baby I was also found to be not ovulating (was under consultant to investigate infertility) and someone suggested that because i had always said that i didn't want to have children (too selfish, happy in my career, not found the man of my dreams etc etc) my body had decided it wasn't then going to waste time ovulating.

I had a course of reflexology and also made up my own mantra that i said to myself every time I stood in front of a mirror.
for me it was "I'm fit, I'm healthy and I'm ready to have a baby".
Now all that might sound very daft and it might well be that i would have started ovulating anyway amd I would have fallen pregnant eventually - who knows?
But I did had some lovely relaxing sessions with the reflexologist, it didn't cost me the earth and before I knew it I was pregnant (I was 37).
Just somehting to consider maybe. i did feel daft saying the things to msyelf but if like yme you've reached the point when you'll try anything then it mgiht be worth a go.

trace2 · 28/02/2006 12:15

thanks mckenzie , i too have thought about reflexology, what do i look under to find someone?, i am glad you shared your thoughts with me, i too have have got to a stage ,where i will try anything.

Thats a lovely story Mckenzie, I agree with you that positive self talk is a great thing as is state of mind. I don't know how much faith I would have, however in positive state of mind if I had been TTC for a long time.
Good luck Trace2, I hope whatever you decide works for you.

trace2 · 28/02/2006 12:16

thank you suwoo

Just been thinking Trace, if you go for something like the chinese therapy and you 'believe'in it, then can't this help? Do you know what I mean, if you realy believe and think this will work then it just might. The flip side is you don't want to set yourself up for more disappointment of course.
Anyway, as I said before, good luck.
xx

try asking around trace2 as word of mouth is one of the best ways I think. If not try www.aor.org.uk for some in your area. You could also ask your GP maybe.

a long shot I know but whereabouts do you live?

trace2 · 28/02/2006 13:50

MeerkatsUnite , how do you know so much about conciving??

Rachee · 01/03/2006 01:31

i have been going for three weeks now, accupuncture. They have also given me the herbal tea, but i haven't been brave enough to try that yet, it taste's terrible!

I certainly feel as if i have much more energy after i have been. ( i am waiting for a laperos... TTC 18 months) so i think i am asking a bit much of the accupuncture to unblock my tubes really !! but i live in hope.

I have had reflexology before too, and that was really very good, I didn't have any pmt the whole time( 10 weeks) i was have the sessions ( wasn't ttc at that time).

Reading all the latest reports in mags and papers , they are really recommending accupuncture to help fertility. Even where convention hasn't!!

Accupunture i pay 35 pound an hour, reflex 17.

trace2 · 01/03/2006 08:25

hi Rachee , how many sessions do you need, and how much was tea, he said mine was £30 one session

OP posts:
coggy · 01/03/2006 10:29

I bought chinese herbal tea etc several years ago but wasn't sensible enough to ask how much it was!! Had a horrible shock when I bought a month's worth and felt like I'd been conned.

I am now having acupuncture by a medical accupuncturist who specialises in fertility problems - nothing happening yet but if you really believe in something I think that is what helps the most.
I've also started taking agnus catus and B6 this month as I only have around 8 days between ov and AF. Hopefully this also help!

gemmaseascout · 01/03/2006 15:21

Hiya
just been reading different threads.
Please please please be careful when taking angus cactus as it can cause miscarrages. I was on it for over 4 months and it didnt make a blind bit of difference. Its not worth it if it can cause a miscarriage!

coggy · 04/03/2006 19:41

If you are using an ov predictor kit and stop taking the agnus castus after you have ov'l't'd each month then I guess that would be safe wouldn't it?

That's my plan.

trace2 · 04/03/2006 20:01

yes i have been told to stop taking after ovulation, but they also said dont take it if you have reg 22 day to 33 day cycles, unless you know like me your not ovulating

OP posts:
coggy · 04/03/2006 22:22

Why is that then?
I understood that it was to produce more progesterone and so lenthens the time b't'n ov and AF.
Ov sticks show I am ovl't'ng ......I think they are 99.9% accurate.

Nbg · 04/03/2006 22:29

Trace
When you see this give me a call.

I know someone who does reflexology. She lives in Eccleshall in Sheffield but will come to you.
She is fab, know her personally.
She started off my labour with dd!

Did you go to that place at M'Hall?

ShouldKnowByFriday · 05/03/2006 00:49

I saw an acupuncurist who was recommended on MumsNet and I decided to go especially after reading that one MumsNetter became preg. She recommended one session per week and then once a month and it was £40 for a session of one hour. I hated the area, I encountered lots of dodgy looking people once I had parked my car, the glass at the bus stop outside the practice was regularly smashed to smithereens and they had a bell entry system and grills outside for safety. Yikes!! Anyway, she prescribed Dong Kwai and something else which i took and was pleasant to take as small ball-like tablets and easy to swallow. During that cycle but I can't remember which day, I had excrutiating pains on my right side which lasted for about 2 hours. I was at a friends' house with my children and I couldn't stand up the pain was so bad. I didn't have any pain killers on me and my friend had one paracetamol in her house so I took that with a large glass of white wine and after a while the pain subsided. I did wonder if it was an ectopic preg but it did subside to a bearable pain rather than get worse so I relaxed somewhat. When I went back to the acupuncturist and told her she put it down to the tube clearing itself. She did not scan me so had no medical proof for such a diagnosis so I thought it was rather a flippant remark. She then took a 2 week holiday and then I was busy at my office and fitting in the sessions became difficult, plus I dreaded going to the area so I decided to give the whole TTC'ing business a break. Looking back on it now, I feel that I wasted time (I am 41.5 and this was last summer) as I should have gone to a proper fertility clinic for a proper diagnosis and my eggs would have been slightly younger.

I read with interest the posting from Gemma who said that Agnus Castus can bring on a miscarriage. I took this last year after reading about it on MumsNet and then on the internet and did miscarry so I really do think it is best not to dabble and it is safer to be under the care of a professional doctor who has the up-to-date medical equipment to give a proper diagnosis and treatment.

ShouldKnowByFriday · 05/03/2006 00:53

I just want to add, when ttc'ing for my son, I got preg in the second month. I used to see a therapist for my back and she would sometimes do reflexology. When I saw her before conception I told her that my egg was due in two days and could she see what she could do. She worked on the relevant area and in particular my big right toe. She put such pressure on it that it felt like a sharp pain and hey presto that was the month I became preg!!!! I have seen her since but not recently as I am going for treatment at a fertility clinic instead. I want real answers
