Never give up. What is meant for you will not go by you. It took us nearly 4 years to get out darling lo (with 4 miscarriages in between) and it's awful I know but don't ever give up. Well kind of give up, book a really expensive holiday, get yourself in to LOADS of debt and BAM! You'll be pregnant within 2 months. I seriously think when you almost don't want to be, you will be! Although if DP ha ssperm issue that may change things but just hang on in there. Good luck.

make sure you husband as plenty of zinc in his diet and have a bottle of stout yourself, that worked for us?

Lauraa83 · 26/02/2006 21:52

Took 4years for me and what finally worked was lying with my legs up the wall (bum tilted up!) for 45mins after each bd

I'll be doing the same next time......

don't give up, I've heard about so many couples who took even longer but it happened in the end so good luck

Hi Slink,

If you can stomach the thought of this, I would get a referral to a different subfertility unit via your GP and have the tests on both of you redone. At four years there is likely to be a problem preventing conception with either yourself, your DH or both of you may be subfertile.

You are well beyond the GP treating your good selves, you should be referred to another subfertility unit.

If tests are over six months old these should be discounted. What tests have been done to date exactly?. Sometimes tests can be missed (I can give you a list of commonly missed subfertility tests) but those missed tests may provide an answer.

Clomid is usually given to women who are not ovulating. Also you should be monitored whilst on it otherwise there's no way of determining whether its working or not. For women who are shown to be ovulating regularly it's use is of no benefit.

Let us know how you get on.

Bella23 · 27/02/2006 12:42

Please don't give up.

I completely agree with MeerkatsUnite - you need to get referred to a specialist to look into both of you.
If your GP is not being aggressive enough then change to a more sympathetic one.

Don't give up!!
It took me 6 years to get pregnant with dd. It took me 2 years to get referred to infertility clinic and 4 years of treatment. I also have a ds and I was having treatment for over 2 1/2 years to get pregnant with him.
As others have said clomid is for women who do not ovulate like me (I have pcos), but it didn't work for me so I had the pergonol injections.
I am with the others ask for a referrel to a different consultant or different hospital and if your doctor won't then is there another doctor at your practice who may be more sympathetic? Take someone with you for moral support if you need to.
Good luck and don't give up (I know that's easy to say, but keep going).

thanks again.

Slink, the same thing hapenned to me re the wedding. I had a BLAST at the hen night, found out the following Monday I was pg Blush oooh all that alcohol. Had really wanted to be able to drink at the wedding, and Christmas and New Year (was a december wedding) and knew it would be awkward giving those not drinking excuses. Here's hoping you have the same "problem" I had as it IS worth the hassle.

MeerkatsUnite · 28/02/2006 07:39

Slink,

The most common tests that tend to be omitted are:-

Adequate x-rays of the uterus which may show abnormalities not seen at laparoscopy in either the tubes or uterine cavity.

Hysteroscopy - telescope inspection of the inside of the uterus which may occasionally show abnormalities not otherwise seen.

Carefully timed post coital testing to see if sperms are surviving in the cervix

Repeated sperm counts over several weeks and months to make certain there is no subtle abnormality

Testing the sperm in special media - such as swim tests or velocity testing. When this is done it can sometimes uncover a hidden cause for the supposed "unexplained" problem.

Thorough hormone tests to detect abnormalities of male hormone or early falls in progesterone.

Scanning of the ovaries to see if follicles really are developing and there is no sign of polycystic ovaries.

All the above should be done at a subfertility unit. Would be interested to see what your GP says, do keep us posted.

MY husband has a low sperm count the best way is go throug an IUI (INSEMINTION) they take the HARD working sperm and help in through the cervix to meat the Eggs.
THe first IUI for me didn't work but the second one did
