Have to have one of these this month and didn't think much of it. Then read the leaflet and it sounds bloody awful!
Did you take antibiotics first? Is it painful? Will I be able to go back to work after?

TIA!

Hi Mais,
There are a few threads on this and lots of us around here have had it done. It's really not too bad and if you are having a straight forward lap & dye and shouldn't take too long. You'll have two or maybe three little cuts where they've put the camera and whatever else they need in around your groin and tummy button. The consultant and the anesthetist will have a chat with you before hand then you'll be knocked out and wake up what feels like a few seconds later and be given pain killers and hot towels (the hot towels are lush).

I had some endo removed and had quite a bit of cramping afterwards but I just told the nurse and she gave me something for it immediately. They'll then take you back up to the ward and let you rest for a while, some people recover from anesthetic really quickly, personally it makes me a bit groggy so I had a nap, then some tea and biscuits then the consultant came back and gave me my results. I always think that's a bit mean as you get told all this stuff when you are not quite with it but the consultant did acknowledge that fact and wrote a very detailed letter to my GP which is what yours will do to so I then booked to see my GP and he talked me through everything. They should give you the date for your follow up appointment so if it doesn't get mentioned - ask for it.

You'll probably feel sore for a few days after, again, its very individual. I was very uncomfortable for a good three days and starting to stress that something was wrong, someone else I know was up and about the next day, happy as larry and back off to work two days later. someone who posted on here needed two weeks. Take lots of cocodomel, it stops you pooing but its effective pain relief! Most importantly, dont put any pressure on yourself, if you aren't well enough, dont do it afterwards. i was quite emotional after mine but I know others aren't phased at all. Hope it goes well x

Thanks do much for your detailed reply - appreciate it!
Wow, it sounds a much bigger procedure than I was expecting - won't be back in work in the afternoon, then! Grin

Think I am the only person who actually down plays what doctors say instead of thinking the worst like normal people! X
