Sick of trying now!

Have been trying for dc3 for over a year now, last year we got a bfp first month after a mirena removal but had a mc at 11wks due to haematoma. We were told that it was likely to be as a result of an assault I had at work. I had an erpc, which led to an infection and I was anaemic without treatment for months after. Then December I started to become ill again, this time an ovarian cyst, I finally had surgery in march and was told that I've got an ovary completely buried in adhesions.

I had a smear last week and while there I asked the gp at what point would they start testing or try and give us help with this. She laughed and said that they wouldn't even consider testing as its clearly a 'mechanical failure' with me, no point checking my hormones as I'm obviously not menopausal, I'm 37 so not unheard of, and that I'm to keep trying the natural way.

Now that's great but quite frankly charting is not good for me as I work shifts, I've been using oPk's and nothing, we've been having sex as much as possible but frankly we've been together for nearly 14 years, as it is we still manage sex more often than average and with us both working shifts and 15 and a 12 yo in the house we can't fit it in any more (snurk).

I'm going to invest in a fertility monitor at the end of the month but I'm just so fed up of it all, anyone else?

Yes....i've been trying for 4 years and its so upsetting month after month. How rude of the gp or was it a nurse...i always thought after a year of trying they then start the tests....theres no harm in having some blood tests done for your own peice of mind if nothing else. If i was you i'd go and see a different doctor xx

It was the GP, I have spoken to one of the others as well at the same practice and it seems it's policy at my practice. 4 years, how shitty

yes we have unexplained, all tests normal...just waiting now to get on the list for IVF :( i'd pester and pester until you get some tests

AThingInYourLife · 21/06/2012 18:22

Go and see a better GP.

eurochick · 21/06/2012 18:35

See another GP. As you are over 35, you should be referred after 6 months of trying. Those are the NICE guidelines.

Hi Tired, sorry you've been through such a tough time,it's heart breaking losing a pregnancy.
I had a MC in March and another MC the week before last. As I'm 44 we were debating whether we should keep trying or not but I feel we would regret not continuing,we wont be replacing the little ones we've lost but really want another baby to complete our family.
Have you heard of the Duofertility monitor? It's a small monitor you wear every night which measures your temperature and can detect the slight increase when you ovulate.Because it's taking really frequent measurements all the time you're wearing it you don't have to try to take your temperature at a specific time. The software is really easy to use. I had ordered one after my first miscarriage but was actually pregnant again when I started to use it so to be fair it hasn't yet pinpointed ovulation for me yet. There is a good support and advice system linked to it and they actually suggested to me that I could be pregnant because my temperature was staying up longer than expected ..and I was.
It's not cheap (£495) but if they think you meet their criteria there is a 12 month guarantee, if you're not pregnant in 12 mths you get a full refund. Of course after two miscarriages I've come to realize that becoming pregnant isn't a guarantee of having a baby but I want to optimize our chances! Having a DS 19,DD1 12 and DD2 8 also limits our opportunities to dtd( every other day for a month would be ambitious!)

Tiredtrout · 22/06/2012 06:50

Hi euro and thing, another gp would be great, but that's 2 now at the surgery completely disinterested saying the same thing.

Irish thanks for the info, I had heard of that monitor but it just seems toooo expensive.

I was just wanting to vent really, it's all very disheartening when people around you are announcing accidental pregnancies and not having any problems at all especially when I have such strong symptoms every month. I even have beginning of the cycle and end of the cycle bras!

Sorry to hear your troubles. You really are eligible to be referred on for treatment. Take a copy of the nice guidelines and refuse to leave until they've referred you...

CaveMum · 22/06/2012 08:12

I'm sorry you are in this position. It is possible that you are not a priority for treatment as you already have children.

Havingkittens · 22/06/2012 10:45

It's true that you probably won't get IVF on the NHS if you already have kids but you are still entitled to any tests that are available. If there is evidence of adhesions you should be referred for a hysteroscopy anyway.

You may want to join the ashermams.org talk board where you can get advice about the best treatment for uterine adhesions (also known as Asherman's Syndrome).
