Hi everyone I had posted before about TTC for 2 years and irregularity of periods. But the more I read other peoples stories the more confused I am about my this random long period I had. Although I am irregular my periods seem to range from 29-35 days but one time it took 49 days, on day 47 l took a test (got fed up of bfn's so stopped hpt's) and it had a VERY faint positive mark. I looked on the Internet to see what people had to say and lots of people had fake positives cos of evaporation lines on clear blue. So I went to get another test - low and behold negative. And 2 days later I got my period. I have always thought this was a rubbish test that I will never buy again. But do you think it could have been a miscarriage or a chemical pregnancy or something. It was SUCH a long time to wait!
Thanks

Hi anoli. I had a similar experience early this year. I got several very faint positives with blue dye tests and had a 50+ day cycle with spotting then negatives after I bled suddenly and heavily for less than an hour then got what I would say was a "normal" period 28days later. I really don't know what happened but I certainly would recommend avoiding blue dye tests and going for pink ones instead. I felt pregnant (although I haven't been before so can't be sure) and seemed to pass "something". I also recently had a transvaginal ultrasound to check everything was ok.

I've had a false positive on a blue dye cross Boots test before. How awful for you though :(
Given that your cycles are do irregular it could be that you ovulated late and then had a chemical pregnancy/early mc. It could also have been a false positive. Truth is you'll probably never know. If you've been TTC that long with such irregular periods, have you been investigated for PCOS? Or had any other tests?

I don't know why they sell them with all the bad feedback I have heard. I know what you mean bugoven I really thought I was pregnant despite never being before it was so bizarre and devestating. Hope your results gave you some clarity x

I think I will give the ovulation tests a go. They seem to have helped some people

Have you been to your doctors anoli? If it is PCOS bearing in mind I'm no expert you may find the ovulation sticks are unclear...you really need to be seen by a specialist if you haven't already.

I have been to the doctors. Have had hormone tests and are fine except the progesterone levels.... The doctor told me these were very low but thinks they may have been taken on the wrong day. I followed the instructions to go on day 21 of my cycle. My cycles are very irregular and follow no pattern so have no idea when to go. eg. 49days, 31 days, 25 days and 34 days. Have had shoddy service at my G.P's and it seems to be a long wait, for periods ovulation etc. I have also had my thyroid tested and that's normal. She seems to dismiss PCOS but I have heard you need a scan to confirm that for sure

I'm not surprised your progesterone were like that with irregular cycles! I had a similar problem I don't have PCOs because my cycles varied from 25-31 days. When I got referred I went every couple of days til they got a clear result! You need to be seen by a specialist. IME GPs aren't brilliant with fertility issues. Yes a scan - fanjo cam!- would be helpful and they might consider a HSG to check your tubes. Seriously if you've been TTC for 2 years you need further investigations. I suggest sitting in your GP's room saying I'm not leaving til you refer me rather effective Grin

Christelle2207 · 19/06/2012 22:29

You definitely need to ainsist on a scan. As you have guessed 21 day tests are unless in your case though if you got one 7 days before the next period that would be good - of course you wouldn't know that that was the day at the time.

I've had two scans without much hassle and in most cases if you have cysts they should be easily visible.

Unless you're assertive with the doc you'll not get anywhere. Heard too many stories of women getting to the bottom of issues 2-3 years down the line when all that TTC was in vein because there was a blocked tube or something that potentially could have been sorted ages ago.

bugoven · 20/06/2012 00:02

I'm still waiting on the results of my scan to go to my GP and then will push for tests as the sonographer said I seem to have a lot of follicles which suggests my ovaries are polycystic. Otherwise all looked good which was a massive relief. Expected there to be something shocking and actually cheered when I was told I had a uterus and two ovaries! Last cycle was 34 days and seemed so normal/healthy. Good luck and sorry to hear you're having problems/uncertainties too. They really play on your mind don't they.

anoli22 · 20/06/2012 06:44

They really do, I just keep thinking there will be something sinister lurking about. I keep having problems with my doctors because the gps
I trust never have appointments so it's virtually impossible to see them especially consistently. So I resorted to seeing the student doctors (it's a training practice) they have been fantastic the only thing is they act like they will be there for years and say come back and see me after your results and really help and guide you the right way but then they leave/move on. One time I wasn't told my bloods were back and they weren't going to pass them on to a new doctor until I made an appointment. So each time I seem to have to go back to square one and it's awful.

I though the same - there was something there that needed sorting out and the medical professionals will be secretly terrified on my behalf as they reassure me about the merits of adoption. I found the ultrasound very reassuring and if there is something wrong it can be treated. Ask your GP. I got referred straight away after saying I had heavy bleeding, clotting and possibly had been pregnant earlier this year (all true by the way I didn't have to lie). I only had to wait 4 weeks and as I said to the doctor, I've been waiting to have children for about 16 years, 4 weeks will be easy Smile
