Question about implanon removal.

Posting here as more traffic then family planning. Had implant removed about 5 and 1/2 weeks ago and had unprotected sex two/three days prior not realising that sperm can live for five days. POAS using expensive ClearBlue Digital two weeks ago was negative (twice). Some symptoms have gone (really horrendous nausea) but have had cramps/weird pangs, plus sore boobs in addition that I thought was the onset of my period but it didn't turn up (even on implant those symptoms were a max. 24hr warning). No mood swings, no funny tastes... I don't know.

I can't find anything non-hysterical on the Internet so thought I would ask here if anyone knows whether you are/aren't meant to abstain before implant removal? I know next step would be another POAS or a Drs appt but I don't really want to have an appointment unless really necessary.

I should add, I'm too chicken to POAS by myself. Also mentioned it to friend yesterday and she (rightly) suggested maybe I'm seeing things because it's preying on my mind? Are there any HCPs around please or people who have had the implant... how long does it take your period to return? Did you have period symptoms and no period?

I think my thought processes (before I get derailed by hysterical Internet threads) go like this: I tested 3.5 weeks after the only possible conception date and got two negs. If ClearBlue say 2 weeks after conception = period date and 2+ weeks is 98% accuracy then I can't be pregnant. I can't date it from ovulation/period date as I haven't an earthly, due to implant.

Which leads me to ask anyone with implant experience whether they had side effects after removal and when the side effects stopped please? If it makes any difference I had awful side effects when it was put in, which is partially why (two years later) I've had it out.

I had it removed a couple of years ago and don't remember any crazy side effects. I'd perhaps go to the doctor's for peace of mind.

Thank you. I will POAS tomorrow morning and take that as a final answer. I tried to call the surgery to see if a nurse could answer a couple of quick questions but they wouldn't do that. I really wish the NHS had more information online!

Do you mind my asking how long it took for your periods to return please?

Hi.
Not a HCP but had my implant out 3 weeks ago as TTC. Had period on 16th of April fairly normal. Had implant out on 16th of may. Expected a period on about 20th but hasn't appeared.

Am now on week 7 and cd50 with still no period. Have taken two tests both negative. Nurse did say it takes 2 to 3 weeks to get all the hormone out of your system. Will give my period a couple more weeks to appear and then head to my doctors.

Guess what i'm saying is it could be just an abnormally long cycle for you. I'd say test to put your mind at rest but don't automatically assume no period means your pg.

NeedaHealthyDoseofReality · 08/06/2012 17:37

Thanks. I think because I said no when they asked were we TTC they didn't give me any information about returning periods (and TBH I didn't ask, I just believed the leaflet when it said everything goes back to normal immediately).

Chances are I'm not pg as I took the test 3.5 weeks after I had the implant out. I am glad it's out - I hate all these side effects!

Just POAS and was negative. Got another for tomorrow morning, then will draw a line under this and move on. Really regret getting the implant - it's caused so much emotional strife!
