different types of ovulation pain

Hello . . .
Could I ask a quick question?

Do you get ovulation pain and if so, what is it like and how does it relate to when you ovulate?

I often get crampy-type twinges (similar to period pains but milder) low down, right across my abdomen, but not sure whether this is likely to be before or after ov.

I've got these pains tonight but haven't had a +OPK yet, which suggests I haven't ovulated yet, but from what I've read, pre-ov pains are more likely to be sharp pains on one side. Is this right?

Hiya, just a quick reply so you didn't feel unloved Wink I'm afraid I don't know too much about ov pains in general, all I know is as soon as I discover something my body is meant to do it stops doing it, or if I recognise a pattern of ov/AF symptoms at any point it immediately stops that pattern. < needs to take body to relationship counselling and remind it we are supposed to be on the same bloody side>

FWIW a little while ago I noticed that I always got a stitch around where I suspect my ovary should be within 24 hours of getting a +opk. Obviously since I made the connection it stopped happening Hmm

I get ovulation pains - a dull ache low down across my abdomen. Occasionally I can tell which side is ovulating but usually not. I always thought they started at the time of ovulation and lasted for a few hours/a day afterwards, but I have been having blood tests to pinpoint ovulation and according to the clinic I seem to ovulate a few hours after the ache starts. For a couple of cycles the pains started in the early evening and the clinic said I ovulated early the following morning.

I do ovulate every month, and one month didn't get a +ve OPK, even though I had my usual pains and blood tests a couple of days later showed that I had ovulated. OPKs aren't always that accurate.

Thank you Scarlett and Daisy!
Daisy, it sounds like you get similar pains to me....I got a +OPK later on, so prob ov'd some time the following day. Must remember to keep track of things like this because I never think to do it at the time and then I can never remember when it happened! Although, like you say, Scarlett, it prob won't happen again now! Hmm

I get a very twingey pain in my lower left or right side. I have a v. irregular cycle so this is my best indicator of ovulation. When I conceived my DS I got the pain on the way home from work - it's a dull ache and then suddenly gets very sharp. We did the deed that night and I got pregnant.

Have you noted down the date of the pain and then counted how many days later you get your period? That can show you a pattern. Mine is 14-16 days later. My pre-ovulation time can really vary but the luteal phase is v. reliable.

And remember sperm can live for 4 days (I think?) so there's a good window. But probably the best thing to do is track the dates and then you'll have a better idea of when you are most fertile.

The best book I have read, which goes into all this in detail, is The Fertility Plan by Sami Davies. Would highly recommend.
