I look through the past conversations and cannot believe how fast some people get pregnant. Which is GREAT! SO my question is this - did it just take the once and then bang you where pregnant? Did you do it everyday to make sure? Where you just lucky and didnt even know if you where "ovulating"?? Maybe all the stress and anxious feeling i have everyday due to so desparatley wanting to be pregnant really do hinder it from happening!!!

How long have you been trying ? will this be your first?

I do think its important not to think to much about it. I made the mistake of convincing myself i was pg last month - turned out to be wrong . SO i've reverted back to my usual way which is - don't admit to ttc, just leaving it to nature.

I fell pg accidently with dd, and so havn't been through this stage before. But until we've been trying for a year or more without success i am not going to let myself get bogged down with dates and temperatures etc i'm sure it adds to stress - which you could be right hindering your chances!

Just enjoy all the sex and don't think about pg. Thats what i've promised myself to do.

Klou - I had my baby 4 weeks ago. I just paid attention to my period cycle, didn't do the temp thing but I did monitor ovulation. It took 4 months for me to fall pregnant.
However, a friend had just been told she would not conceive naturally after a failed operation on her tubes...the day before her 3 month check up she did a preg test as she felt "odd"...she was preg and has just given birth to a boy last Sunday.

My point is, there are no hard and fast rules, do whatever works for you but DO enjoy trying...it is so hard when you get your period each month anyway, you don't want to make the rest of the month harder on yourself.

Good luck!!

I'm now 17 wks pregnant with my first child - had been off the pill for about 6 months (seemed like a very long six months at the time). In the last month did use an ov test (clearblue I think). TBH this was more to check I was ov when I thought I was (periods regular as clockwork). In the last month we did it every day for a week around mid cycle.

NB - I was absolutely convinced that I wasn't pregnant in the last month. Had cramps and sat weeping on the sofa, absolutely sure that my period was about to start - and then it didn't!

TicTac · 20/02/2006 10:56

Maewest
Firstly congrats on your pregnancy hun! You have the same tale as me, I was convinced my period was going to start and was all upset (we had just got back from a trip to Cannes) and DH made me do a test because he was convinced I was preg...and I was!
Can't wait to do it all again!

teacups · 20/02/2006 15:55

I wd echo the advice about not getting too stressed...I know that's easier said than done, but if you get super stressed your body releases hormones which bugger up your cycle! When i decided that I wanted to get pg, i was convinced it would happen instantly and when I wasn't pg the first month I started to stress. My previously regular periods went all over the place and I felt that I would never do it. My DH then persuaded me to chill a bit, and allow myself 9 months of trying before worrying about infertility etc. I got pg after 6 months of trying and DD is now 10 months old.

I really believe that by allowing myself time to get pg without being perpetually thinking "am I pg?" made me relaxed enough for it to happen. With the benefit of hindsight, it also meant that I got to have lots of lovely sex, which hasn't happened in anywhere near the same amounts since DD made her appearance in April last year....

i have been pregnant 3 times.
each time i had sex ONCE in the middle of my cycle and got pregnant

had NO idea when i was ovulating... i think i must just be super fertile. oh and i was on the pill too...

BigHotMama · 20/02/2006 16:54

Hi everyone, I came off the pill in June and discovered my cycle's would vary from 28 - 38 days so was tricky trying to find which day I was ovulating. After 4 months of 'doing it' on the 14th day (somebody told us we would catch by doing it on this day) we decided to stop thinking or talking about it as nothing seemed to happen, and to do it whenever! Dh didnt know but I kept track of when I was likely to ovulate as worked my cycle to be average of 34 days, finally got caught by doing it once on the 15th & 17th day and am expecting my first baby on 7th August.

Goldstarlover!! Bit of tack wouldn't go amiss!

every other day. for 6 months. got pregnant the 6th month both times.

klou · 21/02/2006 01:55

Goldstarlover - forgive me - but i have to ask - why are you on a "conception" forum if you concieved right away, 3 times. I presume you didnt have any emotional issues/problmes ttc?

Klou, I have recently discovered I am pregnant for the third time, although I have only had 1 successful pregnancy. I did not make a great effort with the first two pregnancies re detecting ovulation and only had sex a couple of times a week. This time, having lost a baby and being more anxious about getting pregnant, we did all we could not to leave it to chance. We had sex every day, checked cervical mucus, cut down booze, caved in and bought ovulation predictor kits etc

It has taken me two months to conceive this time, which is the same as it took with DD when we were not trying so hard (but were 3 years younger). So I am not really sure if getting down to it every day helped us or not, or whether a few times a week would have been enough. Personally, I was happier thinking I was doing all I could to get up the duff whilst enjoying the process!! So I suppose my advice is to channel all that stress, into constant sex, even though I am not 100% convinced it is necessary to have sex so often!!

teabags · 21/02/2006 13:46

I was told sex every other day in the week leading up to ovulation and for a few days aferwards. Worked for me. I was preg within 2 months. Good luck!

compo · 21/02/2006 13:50

Klou, I really feel for you as I hated ttc, I found it so stressful. My gp said to have sex every 3 days as sperm lives that long. I had an erratci cycle and just tried to do what he suggested for a fortnight after my period. Good luck xxx

goldstarlover · 21/02/2006 20:07

sorry... i saw the thread in active convos and replied honestly to the question.

"SO my question is this - did it just take the once and then bang you where pregnant?"

what's the problem?

on 3 occasions we have used persona (tells you when you are fertile) & BD every OTHER day.

On first 2 occasions conceived 1st month. Sadly miscarriage, then took 3 cycles to get periods back on track (actually 2 mths) then pregnant again

Recommend persona & there is a good thread, or there was. However, have a friend who has been trying 8mths. Not happening just yet - but maybe due to stress.

sorry goldstar - i know you didn't mean it horribly, but it just looked kinda funny, people discussing their difficulties in getting pregnant and then you pop on and go hi in only had sex once and got pregnant! easy as that!

i hope you can see what i mean, and i find it funny honest, not trying to upset you so please don't be.

klou · 22/02/2006 02:46

Goldstar - i agree with what hattie05 said. didnt mean to offend you - just felt a little fustrated.

When we got pregnant with ds we first tried the every other day in the 5 days around ovualtion. Nothing happened. Second month we did it every day for the same 5 day period and it worked.

We are now trying for number 2 using the same method.

Will let you know . This is our first month of ttc.

klou · 23/02/2006 23:37

Interesting jaberwocky - everyday - did you also do it other times in the month - i was just wondering as i am trying to figure out the best days and i was told every other day. i guess it's easy if you know when the fertile days are?

I've been pg 3 times too and can remember roughly what we did for 2nd and 3rd pgs (1st was a m/c, took 5 months to conceive). Second time I conceived 3rd month and we had sex pretty much every day in the week or so leading up to ov. 3rd pg: we had been trying for about 6 months having sex quite frequently around ov. Then we decided to give it a rest for a couple of months to avoid having another Christmas baby (ds1 was born just before Christmas). But then one day we got frisky , thought `what the hell, I probably won't get pg anyway', did it, just the once, several days before ov, and I got pg!!

So, I would say, there really isn't a right way of doing it, IME there is no rhyme or reason to it.

Good luck!

jabberwocky · 24/02/2006 00:16

Klou, I'm sure we did but can't remember exactly how much. I guess I've been really lucky with regular cycles and easy to read cm, so have always felt pretty confident of ovulation period.

newkid · 24/02/2006 15:31

If it's your first that you are ttc, temps and CM checking work really well, but you have to chart to see the temp rise etc. It's also cheaper than the ovulation tests, which I found useless. A dr also told me that they weren't that useful.

Some background, I was ttc for two years before getting pg with dd. We even went through fertility tests and I had a small op to check that my bits were OK - no cysts, blockages etc. We got pg two months after I started charting and in the first month that I was sure we had a chance give the ovulation day and when we 'did it'. I really recommend Take Charge of your Fertility by Toni something to explain how it all works. I thought I had a really good understanding of my body, but her book is really clear.

Like a lot of other posters I was convinced I wasn't pg when I was and actually had convinced myself that my symptoms all pointed to not being pg.

trace2 · 24/02/2006 15:38

i got this book by toni weschler, its relly good
