High FSH levels

I've just had my day 2 blood results back and my FSH level was 15.5 and my LH was 8.7. I also got the day 21 results and they were "normal" whatever that means.

I'm going to try to make an appointment with the GP but in the meantime can anybody give me an idea of what to expect? I am 39 so I am naturally concerned that this means the menopause. I phoned for the results the other day and I got the wrong end of the stick and thought it was the LH which was too high so I've spent the last few days finding out about that, and now it turns out it is the FSH which is too high.

Is there anything that can be done? I have done a quick search and now I am back to feeling quite tearful again. I am going to try to calm down and then do a bit more research. Has anyone got any experience of this?

Ok calm down. I had high FSH and for me a private AMH test confirmed that I have low ovarian reserve and what s there isn't that great.

However this may not apply to you. You need to look at the lab range where the sample has been analysed. If you get print out from docs it will tell you that.

Also FSH levels can fluctuate month by month so it may be worth doing them again a couple of months down the line.

I went down private fertility clinic line because i conceived my son at 37, had MMC at 40 was ruled out of NHS treatment due to having a child and of course age (now 42).

I have been told that as long as i still ovulate I have a chance of getting pregnant. I have been charting my BBT since last November and also using CBFM to make sure we don't miss ovulation. My consultant was very honest and said IVF wasn't for us as tatistically we had just as much chance conceiving naturally as spending thousands on IVF which probably wouldn't work.

Just be prepared that ou may not get IVF on NHS due to age :(

You maybe worryinh uneccesarily about menopause - as until you have had no periods for a year you are still in with a chance :) my advice would be to chart to confirm ovulation and consider purchasing a CBFM to increase the possibility of conceiving.

Thank you. Yes, I'm not eligible for NHS as we already have children. I'm still having regular-ish periods ie they vary between 24-29 days, but I have them every month.

I've been charting for just over 2 months and I've not been having a temperature spike so I don't think I am ovulating. I was using OV sticks but I stopped because I thought it was my LH levels which were high and so I thought it may be PCOS and I didn't see the point in using the sticks then. I will look into the monitor.

I have been reading up about it all afternoon and it hasn't been cheerful reading. I will have a look at the CBFM.

I will need to look into getting an AMH test done. I don't know if I can get that done on the NHS or not. I will need to find somewhere private sooner or later anyway. I don't think I am a candidate for IVF because of this. Google tells me donor eggs might be my only option and I hadn't even considered that before now.

I'm going to give an acupuncturist a call and somebody on here was recommending wheatgrass so I will try that too.

Really, it's not looking good but I'm nowhere near the stage that I feel I could give up yet.

Thanks for your reply.

Two really great books to read Inconceivable and The Fertile Female will give you hope. Both are by Julia Indichova. I highly recommend them. The auther conceived naturally with a FSH of 42. After reading the books, I joined her phone circles. They are extremely helpful to me. My FSH is 22 (has been as high as 46). Best of luck to you.
