I'm going to have to change hospitals and will need a good epu as i have had a late mc and will have difficulties in future pregnancies and need to be monitored closely from early on

can anyone give me any experience good or bad of either of these two epu's as i don't know which to ask to be referred to. thanks

I'd go for St Thomas every time.

I had DD there in 2010 and they were great. No epu but her birth was long and risky at times and they were wonderful.

It had much better stats than St george's then-prob still does now.

Maybe look at the dr foster website-has useful info. Hopefully someone will come along soon who has specific experience.

thanks for replying, oceanstwo,
can i just clairfy, do you mean you have no experience of the epu and st thomas or that they don't have a specific epu? thanks

The former. All I had during my pregnancy were my scans/midwife spots-nothing additional like it sounds like you need. am sure they'd do more high risk stuff though-they're pretty cutting edge I think.

I can only share my personal experience of st George's as I haven't used st Thomas.

I used the EPU at St G on a number of occasions with my second pregnancy after terrible complications in my first pregnancy (lost the baby just before 20 weeks)

EPU at St G can be busy but it is self referring (you can just turn up which I think is a huge bonus), the wait can be long and the order people are seen seems to ben's combination of medical urgency and first come first served. I found the staff fantastic, helpful and reassuring.

The testing facilities are also second to none (bloods, nuchal etc all latest technology available within the NHS).

For what it's worth I also privately used the Fetal Medical Centre for early 'reassurance scans'/extra checks and rate them very highly.

There's a walk-in EPU at St Thomas's as well - or there was in February 2009 when I used it! I didn't have to wait more than half an hour and they were very attentive and efficient. Gave birth there in September 09, and it was generally a good experience but everyone is very 'rushed' as it is so busy.

Congrats on your BFP! Hope it all goes well.
