3 positive ov sticks at different times. BFN. What can this mean?

Ok so am clomid 100mg, have pcos. Was on metformin but quit because of the endless gastrointestinal effects, but may go back on it if it helps.

Anyway I keep testing both ov and pg tests to cover all eventualities (!) and so far I've got bfns but positive ov sticks on CD9, 12 and 16 I think. They can't all be ov, so what could be going on here? Anyone else had this?

I also have PCOS and was told off by my nurse when I said I was using ov sticks. Apparently they are not reliable for us PCOSers!

The other thing to remember is that the ov sticks only detect the LH surge that happens just before ov, but there is no guarantee that ov will take place. Your body can experience several LH surges per cycle, particularly for women with PCOS. The only way to be sure that you have ov'd is to chart your temperature and look for the bump that takes place after ov.

Love the name CaveMum! I was also told the same re the ov sticks and pcos, but apparently they can be useful when taking clomid.

I got a peak fertility for the first time on the monitor, but DP isn't here! :( Do you think swi on sun is sufficient? I take it you have had at least one bfp from your name, how did ttc go for you? (sorry if that's an assumption!)

No sadly not, we've been trying for 2 years with no success.

You usually get 2 or 3 days of peak readings before you ov, so you might be lucky. Just make sure you jump on your DH as soon as you see him next!

"I was also told the same re the ov sticks and pcos, but apparently they can be useful when taking clomid".

This is incorrect because clomid can encourage the production of LH. The kit is likely reading this increased LH level thus giving you a false positive result on the OPK. They are not worth using at all if PCOS is an issue.

Unfortunately a person can have a temp rise in the second half of their cycle when an egg has not been shed so charting is not infallible also when it comes to PCOS.

The surest way to confirm that ovulation has occured is to have blood tests done; this should be happening whilst you are on clomid as it is quite powerful stuff. No monitoring is unacceptable.

With regards to Met, intestinal effects are par for the course. You have to build up the dosage quite gradually.

Cavemum - are you under the care of a gynae currently?.

Attila, yes I am. I've had an HSG and Laporoscopy that confirmed no tube blockages and am on my 6th cycle of Clomid. Thankfully I'm ovulating on 50mg but my cycles are not regular - ranging from 30 to 54 days, so getting the timing right has been a bit of an issue!
