I think its human nature to want another one.
I often think-wouldnt it be lovely to have number 3
However
1.Its not practical
2.Money comes into it(though it shouldnt)
3.I am too old
4.Why cant i just be grateful that i have 2 fantastic healthy children(one of each sex)

I always want another one when i am ovulating,dp would like several more children-easy enough for him to say.
Often i think whats meant to be and all that!
BUT this phase of thinking will be ongoing-my sister still thinks this way and she is 52

I have 3 and wish I had stayed with 2!!! Sounds harsh but very true. Adore my ds2 to bits but 3 is very very very hard work. It is also very hard sharing yourself between them all. I try to have half an hour each day alone with each of them one on one but it is a struggle. On the other hand I do know it will be lovely when they are older to have all of them around. On the health issue - they are all very healthy except for the grommet/adenoid ops but number 3 is food allergic. He has severe peanut and egg allergy/eczema. So there is no guarantee that a 3rd will be just as healthy as first 2. I should stop as I sound very negative. Think carefully and explain to your dh why you are a little unsure and make decisions from there. Goodluck.

Thanks - you seem to know exactly where I am coming from.
DH sister had a a boy at christmas and we have 2 girls so I think that is alot to do with it but like you say I will be the one at home with the kids.
DD1 is 7.10 and dd2 is 21 months so dd1 is not so hard work but tends to cost more that dd2 what with school trips, uniform and expensive taste.

I have thought about this. DD is 6 and DS is almost 2 - I think that if I had another one now, my DD would always be left out as the other two would be much closer in age.

Anyway, you could have another girl, and he would be nagging for No. 4!

tegan · 16/02/2006 13:11

I know this will sound strange but if I have 3 I really think I should have 4 to even things out.
Perhaps I should have another and see how it goes.
DD1 said if we have another she wants dd2 to share her room rather than keep her room to herself which sounds nice.

I know what you mean ,I would rather have an "even" number to avoid the middle child thingy - but I would worry whether I could give them all individual attention? My DH is hte youngest of 4 and was basically left to his own devices - in his mother's own words "when you came along we had already done it three times and we couldn't be bothered"

I'm not suggesting you would think that though!

See I am an only child and dh only has a sister so I think we want our kids to have more people around them than we had growing up.

I am youngest of 4 too-and at times felt like an only child, and by then the money had ran out

MamaG understand your mil to some degree. I have dd (7), ds (5) and ds (2) and I am so over changing nappies and doing the baby thing. Some days I don't think I can teach another colour, shape, number or potty train. There is an enormous difference between the eldest and youngest. My eldest is starting sleepovers and my youngest is starting to sleep!!! On the other hand I am so patient with my third and I really do enjoy him so much more than the other two. I can honestly say that I have never had a "bad" day with him. With the first I was too busy trying to be super mum, with the 2nd I was trying to correct all the mistakes I made with the first (sleeping/potty/feeding etc) and with my 3rd I relaxed and let it all go as I knew that everything would fall into place and that if he eats toast for tea it won't kill him. This is my absolute limit though, there is no way I could do 4 and my dh had his vasectomy done as soon as my 3rd was born.
