Hi,

I'm not 100% sure this is the right place to post so I'm sorry if not.

I just wanted some advice on the pill and conception. I am 28 and have never been on the pill, my ex husband was always happy to use condoms. I have been with my DP for 18 months and he hates using condoms. We have decided to start ttc at the start of next year when his DD is settled after starting school.

He has asked me if I would go on the pill until then. I personally don't want to but maybe I am wrong, I hate the idea of putting fake hormones into my body, I'm scared of putting on weight and that the pill could lower my sex drive. I'm also so desprate for a baby I do not want to do anything that could hinder getting pregnant.

How have other people found ttc after coming off of the pill? If it is not going add to the amount of time it could take to get pregnant then I would concider it.

Thank you so much for your advice in advance

Ticktock1, you could always try natural family planning. Get hold of Taking Care of Your Fertility by Toni somethingorother, and it will teach you how to track your fertile days. If you're avoiding pregnancy then you only need to use condoms on fertile or potentially fertile days. Even being conservative it allows you to not use condoms for more than half the month, plus it's a good way to learn about your fertile times before TTC.

Personally I'd avoid going on the pill before TTC - a friend of mine has taken nearly a year to get her periods back after coming off Yasmin.

Quodlibet that's great advice thank you, am going to google it now. I really like the idea of tracking my body, I'm quite good, can genraly feel when I'm ovulating etc and would love to be more intune with my natural rhythems.

We would also not be devestated if we 'accidently' got pregnant before we start ttc so that might be a good compromise.

Sorry - Taking Charge of Your Fertility!

You learn loads from the book and she's pretty convincing on it being a very reliable form of contraception of you do it right. If an accident isn't the end of the world then that's even better.

I just found it and ordered it from amazon. The reviews are overwhelmingly good. I really am grateful for that reccomendation. New reading for my daily train commute!
