Hi, just saw an old thread here talking about the benefits of manuka honey with aiding pregnancy. Any of you girls tried it and was successful? I'm starting to take it. I had endo which was removed by a lap, got preggo but lost it. Been 4 months since the m/c i'll try anything!!!

Hi, first of all I'm sorry to hear about your mc.
Of all of us who jumped on the band wagon there was one bfp, so honestly? I'd spend your money on vitamins and a healthy diet :) I hope you get your bfp that sticks soon.

iloveberries · 24/04/2012 21:18

i took manuka honey for a cold when TTC and got pregnant that following month....

but i also gave up booze

i also took pregnacare conception vits

i also swapped to full fat milk

i also bonked like crazy

i got my bfp... but it turned out to be ectopic pregnancy in my tube so i lost the baby and the tube.

so manuka could work but really this whole getting pregnant lark seems to be little more than timing and luck.

Agree with havealittle - save your cash.

Really good luck to you :)

eurochick · 24/04/2012 21:23

I was one of the mugs people who jumped on that bandwagon. I did not get pregnant.

Pipbin · 24/04/2012 22:06

Me too.
Jumped on the band wagon and didn't get a BFP.
However if you do want to try it then you can get it from Aldi for £4.

joycep · 24/04/2012 22:11

I will admit to being one of the gullible ones and went overboard and got 3 pots of the realllly expensive 25+ manuka....and didn't get pregnant. I suspect the whole thread was started by Manuka's marketing team. Best of luck though.

missbrightside · 24/04/2012 22:40

Another one here who feels very Blush that I also managed to get caught up in the Manuka Honey moment .... ! Am about to start IVF. Am sure my consultant might have mentioned that a spoonful of honey could avoid this if so was the case .... !

But all is not lost as IT IS supposed to be good for the skin. On my list of many things to do is to make the two jars of it into a facemask.

(Just not sure I can face cleaning my bathroom afterwards)

acidraindrop · 25/04/2012 06:36

Ahhh, this doesn't sound encouraging at all!! I appreciate your replies and honesty. I agree it's all about luck I guess. I was unexplained for years before my endo was diagnosed during a laparoscopy. I was so happy I finally got an answer. I was one of those people who didn't have any symptoms like pain or anything. When I got pregnant second month I was so shocked & happy. I had a missed m/c at 6 weeks. I was told my ovaries were stuck to my pelvic wall with adhesions (before lap). I'm now entering month 5 since m/c and even thinking of injecting manuka inside there to try & help inflammation if theres any that grew back perhaps. I know its so crazy but I'm loosing my mind and this is what you get!!!! I started massaging my belly to encourage bloodflow. Anyone out there with endo?

Just seen this - didn't see the original thread but shame it didn't work for anyone. Someone told me the word honeymoon comes from the tradition of drinking a honey drink after marriage to assist with fertility. I like honey anyway so can pretend I'm eating it for the taste (rather than because of old myths!)

absentbump · 25/04/2012 12:23

hi acidraindrop, i found I out I had severe endo after a laparoscopy after 2 years of trying - very similar to you as you no pain or heavy periods or anything but my ovaries were stuck to my bowel, after they they removed it they said chances would hopefully increase but it has been 10 months and still no bfp...sorry to hear you finally managed to get pregnant but ended in miscarriage its so unfair to hear that....I did think about manuka honey but tried everything other thing possible and no luck so thought whats the point. I'll probably try ivf at the end of the year once we have saved. They stopped all the ivf in our borough completely so now have to be waited listed at kings for our one free shot at ivf but the waiting list is probably years just waiting to find out - been TTC 3 years now - Its so cr*p isnt it! x

WishingIWasLucky · 25/04/2012 12:37

I jumped on THAT bandwagon too....still waiting for that elusive bfp! The lady who did get the bfp was also on assisted fertility treatment, and was on the thread as she was also eating the honey- not sure it was due to the honey really! Just thought I'd update so that you can judge for yourself! Good luck x

absentbump · 25/04/2012 13:55

you just never know though and it is good for you so might be worth taking a spoonful each day x

joycep · 25/04/2012 17:38

Acid and Absent - just changing the subject but did you have to push for a laparascopy or did they just offer it to you? I don't have any symptoms of endo but would like to rule it out as have been trying for 2 years. Have an appt in a few weeks and wondering whether they'll give me one with no symtoms!

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 25/04/2012 17:44

joycep what tests have you had do far?

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 25/04/2012 17:54

so far. Sorry!

acidraindrop · 25/04/2012 18:54

Absentbump, yes its really crap and unfair!! and IVF costs so much and is so draining!! I was lucky to get a couple free rounds in my country (before lap) and the first was a chemical pregnancy and the second bfn. I've been through so much last 4 years and I feel like I'm losing my mind. I wish you luck with your IVF, try not to stress, I was extremely tense & stressed it triggered chronic urticaria and now I have to take a zirtec everyday.

Joycep, the lap was only offered to me as a last resort, after IVF failed. I went to see the dr to tell him I will not be returning but will try naturally as 2 IVF's have drained me completely. That's when he said 'what are u doing tomorrow, wanna come in for a lap'? Then he said he usually finds something 80% of the time!!!!

I believe most drs push for IVF cause its where the real big money is being made & they believe it can short-cut through everything. But the lap was the best decision for me, and at least gave me answers to why I couldn't get pregnant and did allow me to achieve a natural pregnancy, even if it was lost. I've been told by 2 other drs since to keep trying naturally till mid summer & if nothing maybe injectables or another lap? I just hated IVF so much & can't bear the thought of going through that trauma again.

One more thing, joycep, I had no symptoms whatsoever. No heavy periods, they were actually always on the light side. No pain, always thought I was lucky my periods are almost painless!! No mid-cycle spotting. Periods always on time, ovulate normally. So yes, it still turned out I had endo. They will do the lap if you have been trying for 2 years & unexplained. Make sure you dh is checked before to rule him out.

Hey... for what it's worth, I've been drinking grapefruit juice with a spoonful of manuka honey every morning since new year, and although it is through IVF ICSI, I had my first ever BFP this week!

For info: I was also taking pregnacare, fish oils, and co enzyme Q10 daily too, with weekly acupuncture, which I cannot recommend enough!

x

joycep · 25/04/2012 19:55

Thanks acid - i am sorry you have been through so much. It all sounds so draining. thanks for explaining how you got your endo diagnosed. Isn't it odd that you have endo but no symptoms . I do think for this very reason they should check people out before sending them off to ivf. Sorry about your m/c as well - it's terrible to go through that after everything else.

havefaith - i've had all the normal bloods, hsg. Tried clomid and iui all with no luck. mr DH is fine...we're a bit stumped Hmm. I'm going to go down the ivf route in Sep but really want to just check nothing is lurking inside even though i have regular periods.

acidraindrop · 25/04/2012 22:53

Congrats AngelFairy!! It's such an amazing feeling to have that bfp!! Enjoy and stay positive, and try not to stress even though I know it's not easy. I'm taking a bunch of different supplements and the manuka and doing massages on myself. I did acupuncture in the past, I agree its amazing. It actually cured my IBS!!!

Joycep, you sound a lot like me in that initially I was put on clomid, then iui then ivf. I guess it's just the protocol. In the first 2 had no chance as I later found out my endo had caused adhesions around my ovaries and they were stuck so the eggs couldn't reach the tubes.

It's funny cause the dr said it was mild to mod endo & I had no endometriomas and everything else was clear. I guess its just how it decides to affect the organs!! I would suggest you do a lap before ivf. Its for peace of mind and also the chance of conceiving naturally. Not to be negative but ivf has a very variable success rate. Good luck.

Thanks Acid. Fingers crossed for you x

elizaregina · 27/04/2012 17:09

wow just read this - didnt even now manuka could help, I have PCOS, and I had two jars of manuka honey just before i conceived, as well as wid yam and agnus castus everyday....so no idea if it worked but we had been trying for two + years.

wrighty2010 · 27/04/2012 20:11

Hi, wow I hadn't heard that one about the honey, altough I do know a few people that take it for other health benefits, I guess anything is worth a try?!! xx

razzy74 · 29/04/2012 12:45

Manuka Honey is great for immune support and will help your general wellbeing, its been know for its antibacterial activity so in non technical terms its strong than the normal table honey.

If buying manuka honey look for UMF on the label it means it has been independently tested and so you are paying for Unique Manuka Factor that helps with immune support.

Will this help you get pregnant, I think not. But, it will help your wellbeing and keep you healthy.
