Q for anyone who has experience of overcoming failure ttc via Clomid or similar

Hi

I am looking for hope really...and wondering

Aged almost 41 ttc dc 2 (dc 1 is 20 months) stopped bf 6 months ago.
AF mostly regular since dc1 5 wks old at every 26-30 days, some times longer once shorter. Now have a 45 day (so far) cycle but bfn.
Blood tests (was having hot flushes and night sweats last month) show slightly odd hormone levels but not obviously menopausal. Dr said repeat bloods in 3 months.

Is there anything nhs can do to help me along or do I need to accept lts looking increasingly likely there will be no more babies for me? Sad

Although overall I'm fit and healthy I'm trying to tackle a significant recurring weight problem too and wondered if a bmi of over 40 pre-excludes me from nhs treatments such as Clomid?

Thanks in advance if you have any advice/experience/hope to offer me

Hi, I'm in a similar situation. Had my first set of bloods done today but I am also concerned about being overweight. I don't have any information to give you unfortunately, but I didn't want your post to go unanswered.

Thanks Anypoint. I hope you get useful blood test results.

general NHS guidelines say that you have to be in a normal BMI range to get clomid. But you might get lucky if your consultant is nice!

My BMI is 30 at the moment but I'm working on it. Looks like this is going to be a long process so I hope I can get it down to 25 before it comes to prescriptions and stuff. I am trying to do it very slowly but it is frustrating. The way I ended up overweight in the first place was by losing a lot of weight fast (when i wasn't even overweight in the first place!) and I've been gaining ever since. Grr

Are you doing anything to lose weight Inspirachion? It is hard going. I find it hard to get started but then it gets easier once I get into the swing of things and start losing.

thanks dontcarehow thats probably exactly what I needed to hear (even if I'd rather not acknowledge it)

I'm great at changing my weight, up Blush or down .... when I get going

I'm a fan of the Slimming World plan so I am cooking healthy meals etc but I can't seem to get over the comfort eating thing. I'm my own worst enemy Angry

Some consultants won't prescribe Clomid if you have a high BMI. Also, losing weight can help natural conception (something to so with high bodyfat levels and oestrogen I think). To give yourself the best chance of getting NHS help, I would recommend losing weight if you can.

I wonder if my weight is actually causing the odd hormone levels sounds like it might be euro. Thanks. I'll get in the scales in the morning and take the diet and exercise more seriously it is for my own good. Thanks again Smile
