BFP ... what next?

Last night we had a very faint line and weren't sure. This morning we did another test and there is no doubt ... I'm up the duff!

In spite of having stopped taking the pill last month, this has taken us as rather a surprise! We weren't really trying that hard (did "it" at completely the wrong time) and figured that it'd probably take us a few months and I'd have a spring/summer baby.

So, we're pleased but sort of in shock. Anyways, now we're wondering: what next? Do I go and see the Dr? Do I book in with the nurse for bloods? I'm already taking folic acid, will reduce my alcohol intake :( and thinking that the tin of paint sitting in our dining room for painting the picture rail is going to have to end up back in the shed!

Congratulations!
What happens now depends on your area. When I was pg with DS I phoned the gp surgery and told the receptionist and she gave me the midwives number, didn't see gp at all. Booking appt made for 7 weeks, lots of questions and a few bloods, and then scan appt at 12 weeks. Some areas you'll need to see gp, just ask.
Keep going with the folic acid, cut out alcohol completely and enjoy these couple of weeks before the nausea kicks in! Good luck.

Congrats!
As Mangnum says, you may not need to see GP at all, midwives dont generally get involved till after 6-7 weeks.

Cut out alcohol completely, defo.

Its just a waiting game now, fingers crossed that all will go ok, and take care of yourself x

Cool, thanks ladies for your answers.

I will sort out phoning the GP next week (the other thing is that we've moved out of our GP's "catchment" and need to change clinics anyway).

So, am I right in thinking that I'm about 4 weeks along if the first day of my last period was 4.5 weeks ago?

Yes, you are just over 4 weeks then.
Congrats.
