If you found out that you or your partner had a medical issue which meant if you had a certain sex of baby they would potentially inherit something that made it v likely to have a life threatening/horrible illness as an adult?

Would you carry on as normal TTC and not test for it, consider IVF with screened embryos to avoid it, test at 12 week scan and make decision then, or choose to pursue other avenues eg adoption?

Thanks

That's such a horrible decision for you op, I'm so sorry.
You should get referred for genetic counselling so your options can be explained. I think everyone will give you a different answer because the choice is so personal and there isn't a "right" way to go.
FWIW I think i would ttc and then have CVB at 8-10 weeks, and teminate if a carrier, but consider early ivf if struggling to conceive. I have a DS and I do know that by 10 weeks you are firmly attached to your growing foetus and it will be incredibly hard to maintain some distance til you know.
Really hope you come to a decision you feel comfortable with.

Thanks for replying, we are still awaiting test results to see if we are carrying but started TTC before going for these tests and getting appts seems to take forever, so there is a chance we may conceive in the meantime.

We didn't realise quite how serious the condition could be, and now I'm wondering whether we should stop TTC till we know either way and can think about our options...

Hopefully we will find out that we don't carry it.

I'm not sure, pet, I just want to say I hope you find you are clear. It must be very hard to get your head around.

Ugh, sorry to hear you're in that position, given the options I would go for screening embyos, once you're pregnant you've got all the hormones and attachement to the little thing making a loss more painful.
