Low estradiol levels - anyone else?

Hi ladies,

I just had my LH, FSH, estradiol, testosterone and progesterone results back. All were normal except estradiol which was 'on the low side.' Does anyone else have experience of this - were you prescribed anything for it or were any other subsequent tests/investigations performed?

Thanks for your help!

Estradiol is estrogen isn't it? No experience myself but perhaps some people with experience might not have recognised the meaning.

Estradiol levels would vary throughout your cycle - they would be low on a day 3 test and peak at the time of ovulation. When did you have the test done? According to my five minute googling on the topic, they look at it in conjunction with FSH. If the FSH is low enough then it's not an indication of ageing ovaries. One reason for low estrogen is having a low body fat level - if you do an excessive amount of excercise or your bmi is too low.

Thanks for your reply - yep, it's estrogen. I have long cycles so maybe that explains why.

They did the test on day 3 and the FSH was 6.6. and LH 1.9.

I don't think my body fat is especially low and my BMI is on the low side of normal.

I read on the internet as well that sometimes they can give you some kind of estrogen therapy along with clomid to get things ticking over better, but the gynaecologist was very vague and referred me to the infertility clinic - guess I'll find out soon, but keen to hear of others' experiences... I am a little freaked out that its early menopause on its way, or something equally sinister!

I don't think it would be early menopause if your FSH is low enough and your progesterone results show that you are ovulating. Have you had a progesterone test approx 7 days after ovulation yet? It would be more worrying if you had a FSH above 10 but yours is well below that. Good luck with the rest of the investigations.
