Our 1st was born by cs, due to complications he died at 5 days. I would love to try again but have been told to wait a year! has anyone else had a cs then been pregnant soon after?

Oh tallulah, that's awful. I'm so sorry Sad

Who told you to wait a year? It might be worth going and having a chat with your doctor and asking him/her what the reasons for that recommendation are.

There are many people out there who've got pregnant again quickly after a birth and although I know it's optimal for the next baby to allow the mother's reserves of vitamins, minerals, etc to replenish a bit before a new life needs to start tapping into those reserves, it may not be necessary to wait a full year.

We were told to wait a year by the consultant that did the cs. She said my scar could cause problems if it wasn't fully healed if I got pregnant too soon. I don't particularly trust her though, she wasn't very helpful with advice on future pregnancies. I don't really know who to ask for advice, maybe my Dr as you say.

That must be a uk thing, I've had three and never been told to wait. I can understand how desperate you are, so sorry.

I'm pregnant just under 4 months after my last cesaerean. No one seems worried about me!

sleeplessinsuburbia · 11/03/2012 08:23

I waited 5 months between the first two - so again nowhere near 1 year. Maybe of you're hoping for vbac you should wait?

Pumpster · 11/03/2012 08:25

So sorry about your son.
I have had 4 sections, was pg 7 months after dc3 was born and everything was fine with the pregnancy.

ChunkyPickle · 11/03/2012 08:26

Not just a UK thing - I was told that I should aim for at least 2 years between pregnancies by my doctor in Canada - was a healing thing again rather than vitamins.

Tallulah, this appears to half that timescale and does say the risks are minimal
If you are high risk for your next baby, I would definitely take advice on what they will do differently this time
I lost a baby at term and was pregnant again 4 months later, but had vaginal delivery followed by section
So sorry you are going through this and totally understand the desire to get pregnant again

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss Sad

It's because there is a slight but increased risk of your womb tearing open at the scar site if you stress the wound (in another labour or pregnancy) before its completely healed. The risk is small and people do get pregnant soon after an EMCS (I've read quite a few VBAC success stories like this on MN and can totally understand why you want to get pg again sooner!) but this is why they recommend waiting. Hopefully a mw will come along and tell you the exact risk so you can weigh it up for yourself. Good luck x

Thank you all.
Mince-I will show that link to my DH , he is very worried for me if we try again too soon. Sorry for your loss.
Probably need to do some research and ask a lot of questions on how they will look after me next time. I think I will be advised to see a consultant and not just a midwife, but I don't trust her! Full of confused feelings at the moment.

You need to be absolutely happy with your care. If you don't trust the consultant then do see if it's possible to have someone else.
It's your best bet for a stress free next pregnancy. Any chance you could see someone privately, even if it's just an initial consultation to discuss your options?
You can do that before you are pregnant of course, best to get everything in place first.

VickityBoo · 11/03/2012 13:38

How tragic I'm so sorry to hear that happened. Sad

After my c-section I was advised to wait a year at least to allow the scar to heal fully but it's worth asking your own consultant.

Just wanted to say so sorry to hear your news, Tallulah, and very best of luck in finding answers.

Pipbin · 11/03/2012 15:51

I have nothing to add here but I wanted to send Tallulah my love.
