Hi, read this blog on a study on how vitamin D could help couples (men and women ) with fertility problems blogs.prideangel.com/post/2012/02/Vitamin-D-may-help-infertile-couples-conceive.aspx
Just wondered has anyone been taking vitamin D supplements, is it worth it or is it just someting else to take/do? Not sure!

Honestly? I take a lot of these things with a pinch of salt. From what I've read, it helps with testosterone in men and helps regulate oestrogen in women. So can it help with fertility? Yes, probably. It's also not too expensive. I've got DH on a multivitamin for men including zinc and vitamin D. However if the question is can it help with infertility it may be a no...most infertility has identified causes I say most because not all and no amount of supplements will affect that. For example my DH had a medical problem affecting his testerone. The supplements improved his SA slightly, but treating the cause is what's really made the difference. So yes, it's with finding a supplement with vit D if you're ttc but I don't think it's the miracle cure to infertility.

Vitamin D seems to be the trendy thing at the moment. I have seen loads of adverts for it.

I would suggest getting outside in the fresh air and getting vitamin D that way.

Also if you are taking conception or pregnancy multivits anyway, they will have vitamin D in them.

But unless you are living indoors and never see the light of day, you are probably not deficient in it. It's just another thing to take. I reckon a one-a-day multivitamin with all the stuff you need in it is fine.

I'm not sure if it helps with infertility but it does appear to improve pregnancy outcomes . You need large supplementation to ensure you have sufficient throughout your pregnancy. There can be severe consequences for children born deficient in Vitamin D ( due to their mothers being deficient in the vitamin during pregnancy).
We are probably all to some extent lacking in Vit D . Contrary to popular belief it is formed on the skin not by sunlight but by a particular range of UVB . It cannot be formed in winter ( for a whole 6 months) in the uk or even in Spain, you have to go further afield. Luckily it can be stored by the body so what you make in the summer will last for some time- but not long enough. Some children are now being found to be deficient due to trend for total sun blocks.
I'd recommend a high grade supplement - i take Boots 25ug x 2 per day on top of what is in my conception multivit. It can take months to get your levels up.

It is surprising how many people are deficient of vitamin D.
I live in Australia, so you'd think there's no way I'd need it. I get plenty of sun, but I'm actually a bit on the low side. My doctor tested me after my second miscarriage.

She said that she finds many people who are tested are actually low, and need supplementation. So I take it everyday - 1000iu or 25 mg. I have heard it helps prevent premature labour and other problems in pregnancy.

I don't think it can harm, and there is a chance it may help, so I think it is worth trying.
