Hello. Me and my OH have been TTC for about 10 months. Had a MC in November at 8 weeks that might have been an ectopic. Had symptoms of an ectopic but tests weren't conclusive and it passed naturally.
So we're trying again and really going full throttle for it now. I've been looking around google but there's so much information and it's a bit confusing.

I've bought some OPK's off of ebay but now I'm reading online that they don't work properly if you have PCOS, which I do. Could somebody tell me, is this for everybody that has PCOS or is it a hit and miss sort of thing?

I've talked to my doctor and he's agreed for me to start metformin but I had to have a blood test first. I think he wanted to check my progesterone or my glucose or something but I'm not sure (I thought he was going to say it was too soon so was just relieved he agreed!). I should be going back to see him next week. I was just having a proper look at metformin online though, and the wikipedia page said some studies don't think it's effective at all Hmm
I just feel completely lost in all of this different information and don't really know what to do for the best!
Can anyone help please?? :o

Dont know if this will help but i have PCOS and metaformin was given to me for skin and weight issues. For actually ttc i had clomid prescibed after blood tests i asked for were showing no ovulation. I found OPK did work whilst i was on clomid, i was never offered anything but clomid to help me concieve and i say this as i look at 6 month old ds. I was 1st month lucky though. Please excuse grammer etc im on my phone. Good look and i would ask for the blood tests to see if you are ovulated i didnt mess around with that as i thought oif theres no egg coming there definately no baby.

LulaBear,

I would be very wary of using OPKs at at all if PCOS has been diagnosed as these can give false readings. Many PCOSers have an excess level of LH compared to FSH: the kit can read the excess LH readings so you end up with multiple false positive results.

Clomid also encourages production of LH; again OPKs can and likely do pick up such readings.

Don't read wikipedia!. Have a look at www.verity-pcos.org.uk instead.

What sort of doc are you seeing?. Given your gynae history as well you should really be under the care of a cons gynae if this is not already happening.

Yes my pros was diagnosed a couple of years ago by ultrasound. If I tried OPKs this month and it came up positive a couple of times, would that show that I had problems with LH surges??
I'm just seeing my GP at the moment, not seeing him until next Tuesday. Doctors surgery said my blood tests came back 'normal', so hopefully should be starting metformin. I just hope it kicks in in time to be effective this cycle!
