Polyps anyone?

Been ttc for over a year since a mmc at 11 wks. It took 12 months to get pregnant with that pregnancy. Luckily have lovely DS who is 4, who took no time at all to conceive. Could pesky polyps be the root of my troubles?

So, today I was told that I might have Polyps based on an internal scan I had done recently. It showed some endometrial thickening and some other features that the Dr didn't eleborate on 'as I wouldn't understand.'

Nice and patronising.

Anyway, she thinks i have uterine polyps but unhelpfully as the consultant was on leave she couldn't confirm a next course of action - maybe an operation or maybe not. So I have to go back next week and talk to someone who actually has a clue. I don't really have any symptoms, although the last few months have started to spot before period, but put it down to clomid.

The Dr claims polyps would have no effect on fertility at all. Dr Google, however, claims that polyps can stop implantation. If so, am quite keen to get them chopped off!

Anyone got any experience? Please share....

Hi Beanery
Sorry to hear about your mmc.
I had IVF and an internal scan showed up "suspected polyps". The scan wasn't conclusive but the advice was to abandon the IVF cycle as if I did indeed have polyps the consultants believed it would really hamper any chance of implantation so I think your doctor is wrong about it having no impact at all.

We did indeed abandon the cycle and I paid to have a Polyoscopy privately as there was a 6 month waiting list on the NHS and we we desperate to start our IVF again. Anyway - turned out I didnt have Polyps so the cycle was abandoned unecessarily. We went on to have another cycle which resulted in our beautiful DS.

Hope next week brings you some answers

Thanks for this and congratulations on your DS! I do hope that next week sets me straight a bit. I can't stand all this waiting around. Do you mind me asking how much the Polyoscopy was privately?

The thought of waiting 6 months is not an option. The Dr I saw last week, mentioned a possible hysteroscopy, to see if there were actually any polyps and if so remove them and send them for a biopsy too. I had a lap and dye 6 weeks ago, so wish they just had a look while they were in there!

of course, polyoscopy was about £1800 at Spires in Bristol. I agree, I don't know why a more holistic approach can't be taken and several things checked at the same time!
hope you get some answers and good luck x
