New here and looking for advice/support....DP + I (31) trying for nearly 2 yrs + nothing so far. I have moderately irregular cycle (c.35days+) and thought I wasn't O'ing. GP did one blood test on c. day 11 and said the results were fine, I'm normal ;-). But I'm puzzled as to how she would know - I thought tests to see if you have an O prob were done on day 21 or so? Am I being fobbed off?

Sorry to hear about that Clodia - very hard on both you and your DP.

Yes, in a sense you are being fobbed off. You need all this explaining in full. It's normal to have tests on cd3-5 and cd21-28 so I'm not sure what test you would have been given on cd11. And you have a right for thorough investigations after at least 1.5 years of trying and in many places it's 1 year.

Also - your partner may need testing. Male infertility affects a lot of couples too.

I would make sure you are seeing a fertility specialist GP and wish you a lot of luck. Btw - you have to really push and persist - it took me 3 apps to get them agree to all the tests and I still have to get a second referral because the first one was cancelled... Don't give in. My DP was treated straight away however, and we've discovered that he is 'low fertility' so that's change quite a lot for us... I really hope it works out for you.

clodia a test on CD11 sounds very strange to me indeed.
You have been TTC for 2 years and that needs investigation. With long and irregular cyucles you might have PCOS which can affect your chances of getting pregnant. Go back to the GP and inisist on a referral to a sub fertility unit. Good luck

Yes, you are being fobbed off. The usual first round of fertility checks is a blood test on day 2-5 to check for hormone levels (in particular LH and FSH), a blood test around 7 days past ovulation to check that ovulation has occured and a test for your partner. You need to push for a referral to a subfertility clinic.

As Eurochick has surmised, you are indeed being fobbed off here. I would change GPs as a matter of course.

You need to be referred to a subfertility unit asap and not have the GP mess around in ignorance any longer.

Subfertility is not the sole preserve of the woman; both of you need up to date test results along with a diagnosis.

Blood test previously done on day 11 was done on the wrong day; you need a day 2 and day 21 tests done. These should also be done ideally the hospital now given the amount of time you have been ttc.

It is all too easy to be fobbed off, you will need to be persistant in order to get answers.

I think as you have 35 day cycles you are probably ovulating later than day 14,as your luteal phase is anything from 10-15 days approx so if you take fifteen days off 35 you ovulate on day 20 ! You could start charting and that would give you some info on when you ovulate or get some cheapy ovulation sticks from amazon . Google toni weshler and have a look on her site which has a lot of info on it. HTH x

I have a 35 day cycle and ovulate on day 20.

When we went to the doctor the first thing they did was get DH to have a SA test done. Many places start this way as it is the least evasive and cheapest test to do.

I agree with homeaway charting, with temperatures and OPK sticks will help you pinpoint what is going on.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 13/02/2012 17:18

At two years of ttc without success however, the OP is well beyond the stages of either using an OPK or doing temp charting so would still push for a referral to a subfertility unit.

Thanks everyone for your helpful comments and suggestions. DP is going to see a different GP for his half soon, so I'll definitely get him to ask about a referral for us both regardless of how his results come back! Here's hoping.........
