After we SWI and DH withdraws, it really feels like everything falls out. I'm sure it doesn't, but surely keeping the sperms in place will do no harm. But how? I can use a mooncup to keep them in, but I think they just end up in the mooncup. I heard that missionary position is good for gravity reasons. Should he:
Withdraw as soon as he comes?
or withdraw once he has gone soft?
or some other time?

If I quickly put my legs up after he's out no more comes out, so I guess we should be DTD with my legs up, then me stay like that for a while after. But what positions allow for that and can I maintain for a bit after?

I read (and it seemed to work for us) that you improve your chance of conception by him having an orgasm first. The muscle contractions when you orgasm are supposed to help the 'swimmers' on their way. I takes a bit of effort to get the timing right.

As for position, try you on your back with him kneeling between your legs and your legs bent. It gives him good acces for manual stimulation, which can help with getting your orgasm timing right.

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 12/02/2012 15:50

Honestly? The rapid swimmers know where they're going and will get there regardless. Remember there's millions of sperm in each ejaculation. Give it 10-15 minutes laid down I don't believe in bum under pillow to be honest and then get up and go to the loo to prevent a uti. Don't forget how many women get pregnant without trying, let alone legs in the air etc!

Imnotaslimjim · 12/02/2012 16:14

As phoenix says, the swimmers will get hrere regardless. But don't worry about it all falling out, semen is only the carrier fluid, the swimmers stay inside, no matter how much fluid slips back out when he withdraws

10 minutes lay down will be plenty, good luck

KatAndKit · 12/02/2012 17:11

Apparently 99% of the sperm never make it through the cervix. Survival of the fittest and all that. So I don't see the point in holding the duff ones inside your vagina that aren't capable of doing the job and sticking a mooncup or whatever up there to keep them in. Seems utterly pointless. Ditto the legs up thing.

The good swimmers will swim and they'll do it quickly. The ones left behind were not top quality. There is a reason why there are 300 million in each "deposit". 3 million are still good enough to swim through to the cervix. And you only need one to do the job.

Lie down for 10 minutes, have a cuddle and then go to the loo and get on with the rest of your day/go to sleep.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 12/02/2012 19:29

Legs up post sex will make no difference at all with regards to conception; its just a myth thats been banded about.

Lying down post sex is not necessary either; enough sperm will get to the cervix from where they will not escape.

MaMattoo · 12/02/2012 19:35

Would following that logic mean if you do it standing up you won't get pregnant??
Nah!
Swimmers will swim. Holding things in and a cushion under your bum might not really help. Better use ofcourse is the time of the day and month...when got right, nothing can stop those buggers from meeting madam egg Grin

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 12/02/2012 19:47

I stay in bed for 10 minutes afterwards so that DH doesn't thnk I'm just walking away after I've got what I want from him! Wink

Ecgwynn · 12/02/2012 20:17

I found that putting a pillow under my bum/hips so it flows downwards was helpful. Also if you didn't orgasm during sex, it's probably useful, or at least fun, to have a bit of a fiddle while you're lying around for the 15mins. maybe while your partner has gone to make you a cup of tea, so you don't hurt his feelings!

These two things seemed to work for me.

bonzo77 · 12/02/2012 22:03

Mamattoo sadly even with good timing there is clearly something stopping his buggers meeting my madam egg. So each month we have added something new in to "help". Now I am charting, using OPKs, CBFM, various vitamins... DH has decided that gravity is the key. I thought it was probably unnecessary but he gets so sad when all his precious juice ends up in my bum crack and on the sheets. He has started inspecting immediately on withdrawal!

U can use an instead soft cup that fits up higher than the mooncup, but be warned it is far more difficult to insert and get out when compared to the mooncup . You can oder them on amazon . HTH

pippilongsmurfing · 13/02/2012 14:01

Ooow, I'm glad someone else has asked about this, as I have been wondering the same thing.

At the moment, I am waiting lying down for 10-15 mins but have been considering the cushion under the bum, but will not bother now!

I did hear/read somewhere that a more acidic vagina will kill more sperm before they reach the cervix Hmm, but how can you make sure your vagina is the right ph?

Or if my vagina was not the correct ph would I know about it, and have either UTI's or thrush? Confused

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 13/02/2012 18:43

Don't start meddling with your pH pip! The idea of overly acidic I believe is about an inhospitable womb which would warrant medical diagnosis and attention rather than femfresh!
Once again, like kat and I have pointed out, why would you want to catch the duffers that are falling out anyways? The straight shooters are already on their way.

homeaway · 13/02/2012 18:45

There is a theory that eating different types of food change your cm ph and make it more favourable for a boy or girl. If you had a uti or thrush you would probably know about it .

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 13/02/2012 18:51

Really? Alter the sex by the pH?

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 13/02/2012 18:54

And gosh, yes, as someone who has had both, believe me, if you had a uti it thrush you'd know!

homeaway · 13/02/2012 20:29

something to do with male swimmers liking one environment and female others. I know male swimmers are faster than female ones.... but female ones live longer....

pippilongsmurfing · 14/02/2012 09:28

phoenix, I wasn't going to do anything to myself!!

It was just something I'd heard about, and wondered if it was true, and if so what it meant.

I don't have UTI's or thrush, so I guess my ph must be fine?

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 14/02/2012 13:36

Ha it's ok just been around on conception too long, people taking things into their own hands. Yes your body is very clever at balancing your pH down there, if you're not gutting thrush, you could assume you're ok!

bonzo77 · 14/02/2012 13:38

TBH I don't care if it's a boy or a girl. Just want a baby! I showed DH this thread, so hopefully there will be no more post coital acrobatics!

ShowOfUmblestAnds · 14/02/2012 13:40

What Attila said. All this bum on a cushion, legs in the airs stuff is nonsense. Sperm don't need the help of gravity, it just doesn't work like that. Your body will reject what it doesn't need, the strong sperm will go where they need to go and getting up and going for a wee v soon afterwards is recommended to prevent UTIs. The bacteria should be flushed out asap to prevent infection.

pippilongsmurfing · 14/02/2012 15:00

phoenix, I am desperate, but not at the stage where I'm willing to start trying weird stuff, iykwim?!

I'm definately not getting any thrush or any UTI's so from what everyone's said then I think my ph must be as it should.
Thanks for the good advice ladies.

After reading all the above I'm going to forget the cushion under bum thing. I still am going to stay lying down for a few mins, just in case, I know it probably won't make a difference, but it makes me feel like I'm doing the 'right' thing, iyswim? Blush
