Serious question Smile

What do you do?

SWI - how often and when?

Supplements - which?

Temping/charting/opks?

Other stuff - honey & cinnamon? Egg whites up your fanjo?

First month ttc so looking for tips

Wouldn't they run out of sperm?

Is the bum pillow an old wives tale? Damn those old wives and their unreliable fables.

I'm PCOS, underactive thyroid, so I'm on Metformin, Clomid, Folic Acid (of Course), and DTD every other day, plus charting, and temp taking.

Was told by consultant that OPK tests would not work for me, but have heard of other women on Clomid with PCOS using them? Confused

Other than that, healthy diet, little to no caffeine for both of us, mild exercise, and just trying to be generally "healthy".

Having sex 3 times a day for conception purposes is a waste of time, as the man needs about 48 hours to get his sperm to be the best mature little swimmers he can make.

If you SWI too often the sperm are immature and unlikely to fertilise anything!

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 11/02/2012 09:50

We literally would struggle to fit it in 3 times a day! Seriously some people get pregnant from one shag, 3 times a day is excessive!
Honestly if there's no medical issues, you don't need any hocus pocus, just what raspberry says. I actually don't buy into the pillow thing. I leave it 10-15 minutes just laid down then go and wee to avoid any more UTIs. The rapid swimmers you want to meet the egg will get there regardless. The pillow will only encourage the duffers you don't want up there anyway!

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 11/02/2012 09:52

Apparently a man would have to come 70 times to run out! But overdoing it depletes the sperm count.

raspberrytipple · 11/02/2012 10:06

I've just ordered DH some wellman vitamins. He'll moan but he's been moaning that he always feels tired and not in the mood lately so I'm putting my foot down. He thinks he has a saintly diet but he really actually does not, he just eats an apple and some grapes every day. other than that it's mostly crap.

I personally think the pillow under bum thing is an old wives tale, like Phoneix said, the fast swimmers will get there regardless. Not heard of macca root though?

CupOfBrownJoy · 11/02/2012 10:13

I wondered about showering after sex, which I always do to help prevent UTI's.

I was worried I'd be washing all the little swimmers away, but then reasoned that I probably didn't want the ones hanging around that area anyway the lazy little buggers

Am I right? Or mental?

raspberrytipple · 11/02/2012 10:19

cup you are right, if they can't be bothered to swim for their lives from the off then they deserve to get washed down the plug hole! I shower after sex purely because it feels nice but I always leave it at least half an hour or so. Ive left it longer plenty of times too and not go UTI but if you are prone to them def have a shower.

JamRagRolyPoly · 11/02/2012 10:25

Macca root is also meant to help with sex drive, so if your dh complains of low libido it's definitely worth a shot.

I heard the 'letting sperm mature' thing was a myth too. Either way we SWI everyday just incase

My GP said to go for a blood test to check for immunity to rubella before getting started, just to avoid any faffing later while pregnant in case it was low.

Otherwise what others have said: folic acid, no drinking, and having sex as much as you want to

tentative123 · 11/02/2012 10:32

What's swi? It's gotta mean sex right but I can only make sex with intercourse...

JamRagRolyPoly · 11/02/2012 10:34

Sex with intent I think. Sounds like a police charge

OP posts:
BumbleBee2011 · 11/02/2012 10:37

I think from DH's point of view SWI is not sexy....feels like they're being sperm-jacked!

So try not to do it like robots, keep it romantic. As long as you do it about every 3 days you'll be keeping a good supply where you need it :)

PhoenixFromTheFlames · 11/02/2012 10:42

That's why I'd say sex three times a week every week...that way he doesn't think you're only after him for his sperm!
We've been ttc for two years: I'd never have got through it without the odd tipple! But I drink a lot less. Stopped the binges etc.

tentative123 · 11/02/2012 11:01

Sex with intent! Sounds criminal! Grin

JamRagRolyPoly · 11/02/2012 11:03

My DP knows I'm only after his sperm during fertile times Grin

He wants a baby so much he's willing to have SWI to get there, even if it's quite robotic. We still keep it romantic though

winkle2 · 11/02/2012 11:15

My hubby and I have been together 9 years. We've had loads of fun sex. So he knows now is the time for SWI. He wants a baby as much as I do so he's happy to do it when it's the right time of the month.

historyrepeats · 11/02/2012 11:23

Err, just shag alot. Grin No seriously, just take as it comes.

pommedechocolat · 11/02/2012 11:32

Have a rummage down there and work put where cervix is. My uterus is very retroverted and my cervix is right on front wall of my fanjo. So both times I have conceived it has been through doggy style swi and l have laid on my front for mins after too.

MarieLloyd · 11/02/2012 11:34

Lots of sex for my entire cycle, not just around supposed ovulation, has worked for me x 3, but have been ttc no.4 for 2 years now and have had no luck. I chart, but that is all. If this was my first, I think i would be on the IVF route by now, but I am leaving it up to nature for now.

SilentBoob · 11/02/2012 11:35

... in the usual way...

winkle2 · 11/02/2012 12:15

Is doing it every day ok around supposed fertile time or should we stick with EOD?

I say supposed cause my cycles haven't been consistent for the past 5 months and Ive not seen a positive on an opk stick since I've been using them - 2 months

pippilongsmurfing · 12/02/2012 10:43

All this cervix finding/checking business, I've tried and can't get anywhere neat the "top" end to find it.

Am I missing some special technique?
