How do I find out how many embryos a clinic puts back?

I cant see it on the websites but if I email will they think I'm nuts?.

I know that a single pg is best but do they put 2 back just in case one doesnt implant?.

I'm interested in Midlands Fertility Services, Nottingham Care and Nottingham Nurture.

Thank you if anyone knows or has asked the question themselves. I get one free treatment on the NHS so I would like to make the most of it .

I think it is decided on a case by case basis. At the same clinic my friend had:

1 put back (no pregnancy)
2 put back, (twin pregnancy that became a successful singleton pregnancy around 6 weeks when one twin "vanished")
1 put back (successful twin pregnancy - the embryo split)

Yes I thought it might be decided on a case by case assessment.

Oh well.

I think case by case. Am at care Nottingham for us suggested 2 but gave us the option of 3. Over 40. I think generally over 35 upto 2 over 40 upto 3. If twins run in family will be less. Am happy with care had ICSI 2 put back bfp but unfortunately mmc at 9 weeks. Friend really liked west mids first bfn then bfp had 2 put back.

Forgot to say at over 35 you have a right of 2 and over 40 right of 3 regardless of clinics preferences. Just be careful what you consent to. Our form had 2 on it I changed it to 3 if I felt it was right at the time. P

I think it depends on individual circumstance. At my clinic if you have a better chance of it working, i.e. younger or no known female problems then they recommend you have single embryo transfer. But you can elect to have double but you have to sign a waiver to say they've advised you of the chance of complications with multiple pregnancy.

If you look at the clinic on the HFEA website, it reports previous cycles and gives you a number of embryo's per cycle.

If you give me a couple of mins i'll check for you

IN the fourth quarter of 2009 info for IVF and ICSI for all ages are as follows:

Nottingham CARE tranferred an average of 1.84 eggs per cycle
70.9% were two embryos
15.8% were single embros (elective)
6.8% were single (non-elective)

Nurture tranferred an average of 1.79 eggs per cycle
78.3% were two embryos
12.6% were single embros (elective)
8.7% were single (non-elective)

Can't find midland fertility at the moment

FatimaLovesBread · 03/02/2012 23:01

Midland Fertility tranferred an average of 1.8 eggs per cycle
75.5% were two embryos
11% were single embros (elective)
11% were single (non-elective)

So you've a pretty good chance of double transfer at all three

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/02/2012 09:27

Fatima, thank you. I couldnt find that information on the clinic websites (feel a bit dim now).

Tbh I'd be willing to sign a waiver purely because I think if one fails maybe the other one will take, or they could both fail but it feels like a better chance to me. I do have PCOS but I dont think that is linked to mc anymore (yay).

Everyones so kind on here it really helps.

I'm starting IVF in a couple of weeks and because I'm younger there's a chance I'll be recommended for single embryo transfer so DH and I have been thinking about the same things.
The way we've looked at it is, I could cope better finding out I'm pregnant with twins then I could finding out the cycle hasn't worked. Unless I develop OHSS I think we'll probably push for two embryos

Mumsnet has really helped me since finding out IVF is our only option, theres so many people going through similar things it really helps to offload somewhere Grin

Yes I know what you mean two is better than none. I dont aggree with putting back lots of eggs but my mil was a twin 72 years ago with no problems at all! they didnt even know it was twins until labour was established and the midwife realised she could feel a spare head.
