I would really like to find people in the same boat as me, though 'tis proving rather tricky. I had a fibroid discovered during my lap and dye in December and was told I would need a myomectomy as it was partially blocking my cervix and in a prime place for implantation. Five weeks on, I had a very long ultrasound scan that found ... nothing. Next up MRI scan to try and find the bugger, it was very clear on the lap photos. If I don't find anyone I will keep updating as a source for anyone else in my bizarre predicament to stumble upon. I feel like a bit of a freak of nature. Why would I have an invisible one? Anyhoo, do join in if you have any pearls of wisdom or are facing surgery for removal etc.

Thought I'd add, I've been ttc for just over a year with no luck. All other tests appear to be fine with a small question mark over morphology, although that was deemed fine in a second test.

Hello whereismywine!
Not quite in the same boat but wanted to say hello!
Found out a couple of years ago at a colposcopy and ultrasound that I have 3 fibroids. Can't remember exact details but 2 were in the 'common' place and the 3rd one was somewhere unusual or less common. At the time they said they might disappear of their own accord, get bigger or stay the same. As they weren't causing any trouble at the time they were just left.
I'll be starting TTC next month and I am hoping that mine have disappeared! Or at least that they aren't anything to worry about...
Good luck with the MRI...

whereismywine · 30/01/2012 20:22

Hurray! I was feeling a tad tumbleweedy in here. I hope you are just fine as you enter the wacky world of ttc. I will report back on my Hunt The Fibroid mission. Do you think they've caused you bowel issues (sorry if too nosey) because I do.

I've not had any symptoms/side effects at all really - hence why the doc decided it was best to leave rather than pursuing anything.
The only thing I've noticed is that I need to use the green super tampax rather than the yellow regular on the main days of my period - but that could just be an age/changing body thing.
He did say to get back in touch with him, if I found I had fertility problems when I did get around to TTC but am hoping I never need to. Just means that I read anything to do with fibroids with an interested eye!
I can understand it must be a worry if you've been trying for a while, you think you may have a reason, then the bugger disappears but still no pregnancy... Take care - can imagine its really frustrating...

Well just keeping my lonely little thread rumbling along to keep my place. Second period after lap and still no spotting which seems kind of miraculous in itself. I have an appointment this week to find out what in earth is going on and will report back to myself!

OP posts:
fanjodisfunction · 05/02/2012 20:59

oh, I did read your thread the other day and started to post but I was on my blackberry and I lost signal.

I have fibroids, it took me 18 months to conceive my DD1 unfortunatly she was stillborn at 36 weeks. Nothing to do with the fibroids, she had a knot in her cord.

I am currently TTC my second and its been 7 months with no joy, it is hard this trying business.

My fibroids grew while I was pg, they grow to about the size of a small melon, made me look huge. I was measuring 36 weeks at 28, untill my baby dropped down and then the measurements were a bit better.

Good luck with your appointment, do you know what type of fibroids you have? Many women have fibroids and never realise untill they go for a scan.

I will just say I think that my fibroids effect my bladder control and my bowel movements. Especially bladder I find Im always running to the toilet because I think they sit on my bladder. Also I have a feelings they sit on my bowels which can make it painful sometimes.

whereismywine · 07/02/2012 07:20

I'm so so sorry to hear about your daughter fanjo I hope you don't have to wait much longer. Has anyone ever suggested that the fibroids might make conception take longer? Thanks for answering. I'm looking forwards to seeing the consultant on thurs to have some light shed on things ( but trying not to raise my hopes too much) x

OP posts:
whereismywine · 07/02/2012 07:21

Oh and I don't know about the fibroid type. I'm not sure which is the 'better' kind Confused

OP posts:
fanjodisfunction · 08/02/2012 14:43

Apparently there are three types of Fibroid, the ones that are in your womb wall (these are the best type to have as they only make your womb lumpy)
The the ones on the inside of your womb wall (these can make it difficult for a egg to implant) and then theres the ones that grow on the outside of the womb, these are bad they can grow very big and start to attach to ther organs.

If you are brave enough have a little google search on fibroids. (I say brave as some of the pictures are not nice)

I will have alook for the web page I found when I found out I had fibroids, it was very informative and helpful.

Good luck with your appointment.

I had some people talling me that fibroids may make my ttc journey more prolonged and otehrs telling me that it makes no difference, I guess it depends on what type of fibroid you have and how many you have.

whereismywine · 11/02/2012 17:44

Short update. Te consultant thinks he can see a shadow on the ultrasound photos so just waiting for my MRI. But he sits on the fence about the fibroid being the cause of our infertility. Bums. It needs to come out though as it is totally blocking access for a canula which would be needed for assisted conception. My little brain thinks that if a canula can't go in, that might be a problem? Will keep updating.

fanjodisfunction · 12/02/2012 12:48

Sounds like you might have a fibroid inside the womb then, I really hope this doc steps up and sorts you out, be quite demanding, I think sometimes we are inclined to just let the doc tell us stuff and not ask back, but do even if you think it sounds stupid.

Good luck hun.

Im poas tomorrow if AF doesnt rear her ugly head. I will post if I am and be here for any support you need through your fibroid treatment.

whereismywine · 12/02/2012 15:27

Good luck! And thanks for the support. I was a bit baffled when he said it probably wasn't stopping me getting pregnant. I hope he's wrong! Let me know how you get on x

OP posts:
fanjodisfunction · 13/02/2012 10:48

bad news mywine I didnt even get to POAS this morning, AF reared her ugly head. What a bitch.

How are you doing?

whereismywine · 13/02/2012 20:10

Aw boo, I'm sorry you didn't make it to the stick. I rarely do. Sometimes the very act of weeing on one makes my period come. Hope you're ok and keep on trucking, you will get there. I can't remember - have you considered having the fibroids removed? I'm having a good few days of no fibroid pain. Maybe it has gone Smile

OP posts:
fanjodisfunction · 13/02/2012 20:56

mine are inside the womb wall, so cant be removed really, otherwise they would effect my fertility. I have heard that sometimes they can disappear on their own, sometimes after birth (this didnt happen with me) and some times through change of diet, I have heard some people say that if you lose weight they can reduce in size, also I was told that the pill can make them grow bigger.

Fingers crossed yours might have dissappeared.

Pinkie29 · 09/05/2012 19:51

Hellooooo? Anyone still here?

Fanjo god bless you that must have been awful losing your daughter Sad really hope you are successful in the near future!

Well me and dp have been ttc since January just entered cycle 4 with no joy yet doing everything we can to help ourselves, I've suspected pcos for a while, had a scan and they found a fibroid in the left womb wall, she said its not anything to necessarily worry about and shouldn't interfere with conception but mehh that's not much help Sad I have veeeeeey long cycles 43 days the last two, caught my lh surge but no guarantee I ovulate? Currently temping to try get a confirmation of ov.

I know it's not been long but I just felt we had it then came on badly on Monday Sad so gutted and it's all I can think about, I have a new niece and it physically ached holding her today just the yearning feeling was stronger than I've ever felt before (and I'm barely the maternal type!)

AtaleOfTwoCities · 09/05/2012 22:06

Hi! I also discovered through a scan for something completely unrelated that I have a fibroid. I Have no idea On the type. I have been ttc for nearly a year and no one has told me that the fibroid has anything to do with it but I'm not sure anymore. Dc1 was conceived immediately when the fibroid was non existent!
Cycles are very long, very heavy and i also have a lot of pressure on my bladder etc. Does anyone else also have a dragging feeling/pain when on af or ovulating. It's excruciating. in the last few months I've not been as regular as I used to be which is tantalising but I get the pains for a while in advance so I don't poas so regularly. I know it's coming!
Nice to know there are others out there

Pinkie29 · 09/05/2012 22:28

I get a weird twinge/dragging feeling about week after I think I've ovd? right in the middle of the womb, she said mine is a intramural fibroid? Found a pic
www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&client=safari&gl=uk&biw=320&bih=416&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=intramural+fibroids&btnG=&mvs=0%23i=43

She said as its in the wall and 17mm by 9mm it's considered very small and unless we've been ttc for a year they wouldn't investigate further as often they disappear on their own or just stay as they are.

Of course I've convinced myself this is stopping me conceiving/implanting Sad

I need a hobby!!

whereismywine · 10/05/2012 08:02

It's my old thread! Time for an update methinks. Fanjo - are you around? How are you doing?

Hello! Saw my old thread pop up Smile

I DO get a horrible dragging pain quite spread over my abdomen at ov and af, v painful and exhausting, not just twinges of pain. I get a lot of bowel cramping too. My MRI scan initially revealed a 'healthy pelvis' in March which left me all of a state because consultant said the fibroid was unlikely to have gone, was impeding a pathway for iui or ivf and that I would need another lap to look again Angry I pressed for them to look at the photos, ultrasound and MRI images together. This took many phone calls and pleading but he did arrange a meeting with two radiologists and lo and behold - it had been there all along Hmm I also had the joyful experience of a rectal exam just to check Blush so...it's coming out via myomectomy next Tuesday. I'm very scared as its a big op with a tiny tiny risk of emergency hysterectomy. Dear god.

Sadly the consultant is adamant it isn't the reason for me not conceiving yet, after 16 cycles. It's a subserosal fibroid bulging outwards to the back. It doesn't impinge on the inside after all or block the cervix. However, it's weight has pulled my womb into a sharply retroverted position make the angle of womb/cervix very sharp, hence my failed hsg and lap and dye. He reckons now he's seen the MRI he knows how to access it and will try another dye test whilst I'm under. The womb is now compressing my bowels and rectum which I'm hoping is the reason for all my bowel probs? And secretly hoping that maybe it might help me get pregnant.

Pinkie that is a tiny fibroid I think, mine is satsuma sized. I hope it doesn't take either of you much longer. Fibroids are such s mysterious frustrating thing. Will update next week after the big op.

OP posts:
Pinkie29 · 10/05/2012 09:12

Yeah she said its very small which is a blessing compared to others.

I think I've just been naïve in assuming I'd get preg at the drop of a hat, mainly cause almost everyone around us 'just happened' without even trying makes me grrr and a bit Envy especially when people have said 'I never wanted this' or 'it's such bad timing' like stop moaning and be grateful you can get pg without even trying lol I'd kill for that (not literally)

whereismywine · 10/05/2012 12:34

It is difficult but remember its very early days for you yet! Although I know by month 4 I was already feeling fed up. The odds are all in your favour. Do update this thread when you get your bfp!

OP posts:
AtaleOfTwoCities · 10/05/2012 12:57

Doesn't the fibroid make it all bumpy and therefore harder to conceive. I've read the it doesn't necessarily cause infertility but it just makes it harder. I definitely think it has something to do with my failing ttc!
the whole business with a couple of extra long cycles this year has thrown me. I'm going to go and see the gp about it as believe it or not we have never discussed it! I would like o know type and where it is. I think it's on my uterus measuring 2 or 3cm. Bits of info from my scan!
I can deal with the excruciating pain for now if I can have some clarity. I thought I was the only one with the dragging feelingand pain, I have in all the way down my legs also, not much fun at all. Pre during and after, plus at ov times.
wheregood luck with your op I hope it all goes very smoothly for you and positive results all round!

Pinkie29 · 10/05/2012 13:22

wine - I keep trying to tell myself that but uff doesn't help, it's been almost 6 months cause of the long cycles in a year we might only get 8 chances instead of 12 Confused

I wouldn't say it causes any problems but thinking back I sometimes get a sharp pain on the left side it's almost like i need a wee but in the wrong place? Not agony just uncomfortable

I don't think it's made it lumpy she said its within the wall on the left very small and the uterus was a normal shape and size and lining showed as normal thickness
