Naproxen and ttc

I am suffering greatly with low back pain at the minute. Last gp prescribed co cocodomol but its not doing much so gp today prescribed naproxen as well. It is clear from my notes we are ttc and only 2 days ago I picked up a script for Clomid. Unfortunately when I have read the leaflet on naproxen it says it can cause difficultly getting pregnant, obviously not what I want!

Any ideas?

I'd speak to your local pharmacist :)

Naproxen is an NSAID so should not be taken if pregnant increases risk of miscarriages. However you have limited options as there are only paracetamol NSAID and opiates. You are on paracetamol and an opiate so if your pain is unbearable then the only other option is NSAID or stronger opiate also a problem. No easy option heat physio etc. good luck

I have chronic pain problems, I was told not to take any naproxyn - I'd been on it for years - it can casue problems with the circulatory system in baby and I think it can also disrupt formation of the placenta. HCP can be a bit thoughtless sometimes, just going by the routine they are used to and not thinking. I told a dentist I was pg and he still tried to x-ray me!

Have you tried physio? lots of areas allow you to self refer now, but it would have to be before you fell pg, only an ante-natal physio can treat a pg woman. Other than that if it's a longterm thing get a referal to a pain clinic, I was switched to morphine sulphate when ttc and pregnant, unusual decision a pain clinic can make in order to allow you to function and the baby to be safe.

What level of co-codamol are you taking? I have the same prescription as you (naproxen & CC). I'm happy to take Naproxen before ovulation but in 2ww switch to CC. I've been prescribed 30/500 which is the highest. The other levels are 8/500 and 15/500.

I find the heat patches to be a big help as well without adding more medicine to your system.

I hope the pain eases soon.

Hi trickle, busyladyand bugsylugs i am on co codomol 30/500 also.

I spoke to pharmacist and she said not to take it as it can prevent/delay ov which is where my problem is. She said i can really only take the paracetamol and codeine combo

i have a heat pack and have been seeing my occ health physio who thinks its a disc problem and is writing today to my GP about a referral for MRI.

Thanks for your help
