Anyone else mad enough to ttc with a very small age gap?

I have a 3.5 yo DS and a 9 week old(!) DD. I wasn't close to either of my siblings I think because they were 8 and 6 years older than me, I don't want the same for my DC's. I haven't even had a period yet but we've just started(though not seriously) ttc DC3. We're giving it until the summer before we start taking it seriously.

Is anyone else as mad as me?

Not me! :o

Good Luck though :)

Hi sevens I'm am not quite as crazy as you :) but wanted to join your thread. have a 3.5 month old and think we will start using no condoms (never went back on birth control) when she is 5ish months. By summer we will be trying in earnest as well. Took us 6-8 months for DD so I'm expecting the same this time round.

I am 16 months apart from my brother and that was really great so I'd like the same for my DCs.

fluffygal · 11/02/2012 22:17

I didn't ttc but was 'caught out'- there is just under 12 months between mine oldest two. Very hard the first year but no problems now (5 and 6) and get on great.

Cruelladevil77 · 14/02/2012 10:27

We didn't ttc either with DC2 but got caught out too and got pregnant when DC1 was 5 months old. So there is a 14 month gap. Hard first year but at least still have a break with naps etc and once past first six months stages don't seem to be that far apart. Would do it again. They are brilliant friends (4 and 5 now).

Found DC3 a bigger shock going back to nappies, lack of sleep etc.

Good luck

Our PFB is 4 months and we are ttc number 2. Not hopefully though as she is like a feeding monster (ebf)!

goldmaple · 14/02/2012 18:09

chesire welcome:). DD is 3.5 months and EBF too so not much chance of getting caught out. no sign of AF. I think I will stop making DH use protection (he will be very happy), I'll say it's for valentines day:)

Better too soon than really late I think. And I will obsess if not up the duff in a year or so, so might as well get more chances.

goldmaple · 14/02/2012 18:11

Also meant to say thanks for the reassurance cruella and fluffy. Good to know that it's worth a hard year or two:)

ddas · 14/02/2012 18:40

We are! DS is just 6 months and now TTC no 2. but since stopping bf my cycles are not quite the previous regular 28 days. My theory is you never know how long it will take to conceive and although a small age gap in hard in the short term great in the longer term. DS has just started crawling so having to do less of the carrying which hopefully will make being pregnant with dc2 a bit easier than if he wasn't mobile. now just got to keep my fingers crossed for the first step of that is the BFP!

crochetcircle · 14/02/2012 19:19

We have done just that, conceived when DD was 5 months old so gap will be 14 months. I felt ready, and tbh we both wanted another baby the moment DD was born!

I'm 3 months pregnant now, and there are two things I wished I'd thought about before our night of passion:

1: pregnancy can affect your milk supply so think how you would feel if you had to wean onto formula earlier than you planned. It doesn't affect everyone but still. It also makes your nipples sore (again different for everyone).

2: check your contract with work. I have to return to work for just 1 month to get another years maternity. I'm civil service so probably the best terms. I reckon other organisations might need 3 months back at work before.

3: I had conveniently forgotten just how tiring first trimester is. Seriously! Maybe it's easier to do this whilst still on mat leave. I'm not sure, but anyway, my brain/hormones had erased the details of ms etc

Absolutely not trying to put you off doing it - I'm massively excited, and just had 12 week scan. I think it makes sense for my career too - I would only have gone back to work to try for a second, so why not get it out of the way and when I do go back, I'll know it's for good.

Good luck pregnancy hunting!

Also - lovely to hear stories of close babies getting on well as they grow up. Thanks xxx

lorcana · 14/02/2012 19:26

I have between 11 and 19 months between my 5 DC - currently 5 months - 5.5 years old ! -I'm done ! Am in my mid 40s so probably time !!

recall · 14/02/2012 19:35

I did, i have a 4, 2 and 1 year old. We planned it this way.

Its very very good, I recommend it, all close together, so, very intense right now, but in 2.5 years, they will all be at school together.

They are all playing together right now. A little gang Grin

recall · 14/02/2012 19:36

I find that co sleeping helps them being close together and getting on well, we all sleep in the same room.

Moominsarescary · 15/02/2012 17:07

I conceived ds4 8 weeks after ds3 was born but had a late mc, so I don't think your mad at all, I have 8 years between each of mine so wanted a closer age gap this time

I have a few friends with small age gaps and it's worked out realy well for them, although they have all said the first year is hard.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 16/02/2012 13:40

I wish I could. Dd is still having breastfeeds and my periods have not returned yet. Did preg test and am not pregnant.

She only has two feeds a day now but periods show no sign of returning.

goldmaple · 17/02/2012 18:06

crochet Congrats! when did AF restart for you? If you don't mind me asking. Also think your tips were good. I'm self employed so no worries about my job ( that I can control).

ddas good luck with ttc! How long after stopping bf did it take for AF to return (hopefully don't mind me asking).

ddas · 17/02/2012 21:00

thanks! fingers crossed for all of us! period came back really quickly within a month but cycles been a bit all over the place which worrying me.

tentative123 · 17/02/2012 21:30

We will be - just need to get the first one to vacate the pouch first! Good tips thanks.. now to find a way to check with work subtly..

AndFanjoWasHisNameO · 17/02/2012 23:34

waves meeee! There are 16 months in between my DCs (DS 2 DD 11 months) and I'm trying for number 3 :o it has been hard and hilarious but wouldn't change a thing.
Careful those of you thinking a lack of cycle will protect you-I was still feeding DS four times a day and had no return of period then wham, pregnant again.

crochetcircle · 21/02/2012 15:04

hi goldmaple

i got my first period 7 weeks after giving birth and one a month ever since despite breastfeeding on demand. I think this is quite unusual. Our DD slept for Britain from quite an early age, and I'm sure this had something to do with it - she slept at night for six hour stretches from 4 weeks old and 9 hours from 6 weeks.

ddas · 21/02/2012 16:10

just a quick question for those of you with little ones: have you found that since your periods returned your ovulation day changes with every cycle? I have a nearly 7 month old and ttc no 2. periods came back about month 4 and seemed to have no pattern ie who'd last 2 weeks then a few days break then nothing but last 2 a bit more normal lasting 33 and 24 days. the 24 cycle I ovulated on day 12-14 according to opk but this cycle I've only just had a positive opk on day 19 ?? bit confused but swi just in case nearly all month as though to start with opk not working and now seems I'm just ovulating later than last cycle.

welovesausagedogs · 21/02/2012 16:29

I would find that too close to me, i like to enjoy their babyhood, we exactly two years between them and no.3 will arrive in late june and then we will have a 4yr old a 2yr old and a newborn.
