I have irregular periods ranging from 35-83 days. This hasn't bothered me in the past but now we have started ttc it is!

Anyway, there is lots of conflicting info so I want to know if:
Irregular periods mean thing like the fertility app are useless?
Ovulation predictor tests are pointless?
Monitoring discharge and the way it changes throughout cycle is of any help when ttc?
How often should dh and I be dtd?

Many thanks
PFF

If you have irregular periods you may have polycystic ovaries or something else that is affecting ovulation. Periods that are this irregular generally mean you are not ovulating every month. I would go to see your GP next week armed with this information, and they will be able to do blood tests / send you for a scan. They may be able to find the reason you have irregular periods and then once they do that they may be able to treat it. If you're ttc, I really would recommend getting this looked into.

Hope it goes well and they manage to sort it out for you!

I had blood tests a few years ago for another issue and doctor was able to tell me that I am ovulating. My questions is if I have such irregular periods how do I know when I ovulate?
Don't want to be bothering the doctor when I have only been ttc for 1 monthBlush

I second the advice that there probably is something going on to affect your ovulation so if you haven't got pg after a year (or 6 months if over 35) you should see a dr. You can try earlier than that if you like but most GPs won't do anything outside that timescale.

To answer your Qs:
-a fertility app is almost certainly useless. They work on averages and your cycles are outside the average.
-ovulation kits might work for you BUT you would get through a lot of them with that cycle range so if you go down that route I recommend you look online for large batches of cheap sticks.
-monitoring EWCM, egg white-like cervical fluid is not a bad idea. It indicates you are about to ovulate but be warned a lot of women with long cycles get more than one spell of it in a cycle so don't give up dtd after you first see it thinking that you are covered.
-with cycles like yours, the best thing is probably just to keep going every 2 or 3 days through the cycle. Most women ovulate 10-16 days before their period, so for you that could be anywhere in the range from day 19 to day 73! Just keeping shagging throughout is probably the best idea!

The good news is that you seem to be ovulating (based on your second post). You just need to make sure that there is sperm there at the right time.
