Can cystic ovaries 'disappear'?

Not the actual ovary, obviously, but its cystic nature?

At every scan I've ever had, I've been told that I have cystic ovaries. Not PCOS, just 'very' (consultant's words) cystic. My last scan before today was in August last year.

At a scan I had today I was told that that's no longer the case - my ovaries look nice and normal. I saw the scan and they definitely look totally different - just one nicely maturing follicle.

Nothing's changed in the interim...

Huh?

Mine did when I was on dianette for pcos, but now I cant have any oestrogen based contraception because it gives me migraines.

I've wondered this myself as a lot of the info on PCOS suggests that "even 10% weight loss can improve the condition", however I understood from my consultant that once the cysts had formed, I've 13+ on each ovary, they can only be removed/burnt away by ovarian drilling.
Sorry not very helpful but hopefully someone in the know will come along soon.

I was told by a sonographer that cysts can build up when you haven't had a period for a while, but once you resume a regular cycle, they disappear. That's what happened to me.

Ooh maybe that's what it was. I was pregnant/BF for a while before my first scan, and have got my cycles back since.

I've been told the same. I had poly cystic ovaries on 2 scans 6 months apart, but not on another one 3 years later.

Why don't doctors tell you this?!

When I was first 'diagnosed' with PCO years ago, the consultant immediately told me I had PCOS (no bloods, nothing) and told me I had to take metformin to make me ovulate (I'd come off the pill 3 months earlier and hadn't had a period). Luckily I ignored him and got pregnant naturally first try a few months after.

You'd have thought a gynae would have known better...
