Hi
We're planning to start ttc next month after hols and just wanted to see if I could get an idea about my cycle. When i conceived DS I had entirely regular cycles and knew to an hour when I ov'd!

Over the last year since stopping BF I've had irregular cycles, anything from 18-36 days. CD1 was 10th dec, opks all seemed to look similar with 2 equally dark lines until CD 27 when I got a definite positive, then neg next day.
Have felt odd, almost like early pg, def no signs of af so did further opk this am CD36 which was a stonking positive. Did do a HPT to be on the safe side and bfn.

So looks like 2 LH spikes this cycle. Has this happened to anyone? Any idea when I can expect af? No idea of current LP.

If this has happened to you have you managed to conceive later?

Thanks very much. Hormones all over the shop and feeling yuck!

I would seek medical advice asap as there has been a marked change to your cycles. Often such changes are caused by hormonal imbalances; blood tests can be done to see if there are problems with the thyroid gland or if there is any indication of polycystic ovareies.

OPKs are of no benefit at all if the menstrual cycle is irregular.

I'm not an expert but OPK's just give you an indication that your body is gearing up to ovulate by producing a surge in LH, sometimes this surge is unsucessful (if your ill or stressed possibly??) and ovulation is delayed until another surge happens later.

The only way to know for sure whether you have ovulated or not is to take your basal body temperature at the same time each morning, a rise in temperature for a minimum of 3 days indicates you ovulated the day before the initial rise. OPKs cannot tell you if you ovulated or not, just that your body was getting ready to.

You can also get a positive opk if you're pregnant but a hpt would definately show a positive before an OPK as they're more sensitive.

HTH

Thanks
Atilla I've mentioned it to gp twice and basically just got an oh well these things happen response. Maybe should ask for investigation.
Thanks Piggy, no stress, illness, weight changes or anything else to explain it. May try temping but suspect I'll always be forgetting to do it before I get up!

I agree with all of the above - sometimes your body tries to ovulate, doesn't, and tries again. However, if your cycles are irregular, it's worth going to your GP and asking for investigations as to why.
