Hi, Im new to here but in need of advise and with no chance of seeing GP till next week, and google scaring me out of my wits, i thought id join you ladies on here.

My story goes something like started pill at 14, came off at 17 (after severe weight increase from a size 14 to a size 22/24) Cycles before and after pill were anything from 3-12 weeks at a time with lots of mid cycle spotting. Moved in with hubby at 18, started losing weight and fell pg with our first after 13 months ttc. Fell with second at 10 months ttc. Then came our angel who died aged 16 days. I was then diagnosed with underactive thyroid. For first time my cycles became regular on their own and we were blessed a further 3 times (so i have 5 and an angel).

After my last child was born december, the GP lowered my thyroxine meds, and after one blood test while i was still breast feeding (february-id been drs as i was experiencing underactive thyoid symps due to the lowering of my meds) i was told thyoid levels were fine and i had pcos.

No scans, no other signs except my previous underactive thyroid symptoms.

It took me almost a year to get my meds upped, and 2 weeks after i started taking higher dose my period finally returned. It normally returned 3 weeks after stopping feeding.

My youngest is now 3. We have never used anything to prevent pg (despite drs insisting 'we must or i'll be pg'). We are actually ttc but nothing is happening. My GP is reluctant to do further tests as i already have pcos diagnosis, despite me contesting this. Ive tried other gps but get the same reaction-i have kids already, i should be glad i dont seem to be able to have anymore.

So, finally, after lots of charting (worked out i had a luteul phase defect) i started taking agnus castus. That legnthend cycle. Then a friend mentioned taking vit b6 also helps. Had a really heavy period 26th dec. Lasted 11/12 days which is way longer than normal. Cycle was normal length-wasnt late. Then 2 nights ago, i went to bed and found what looked like period blood. It was bright red, sticky (sorry if TMI) followed by cramps. It then went pink wtery and now has gone brown watery/bitty. It started 16 days after my last period!? No pain at all before the blood showed up. Its almost like a mini period?

Ive tried searching things on google etc but its all talk about ov cancer, and ruptures requiring surgery etc.

My cousin who has pcos said thats normal for pcos, but its never been normal for me, not since my thyroid has been treated, and even then ive only ever had spotting/cervical erosion.

Any ideas? Anyone else had this? I get the feeling if i go to GP with this, ill just get the whole 'you have pcos' without any real testing or diagnosis. Apart from my size (Im quite large framed mind, and so are my dads family, and its pretty obvious im never going to be 'small') my periods are regular, i had negative/positive then negative again opks when i used them (stopped now), and any hair growth etc only happens when my thyroxine dose is messed around.

Im worried, I get fobbed off all the time because we have kids. If i had been ttc for 3 yrs+ but it was with a new partner, id be eligible for fertility treatment and referal, but because im married to the same person who fatherd all our kids, im not able to ask for anything :(

Hi :)

As far as I'm aware, you're entitled to be referred to gynae/fertility whether you have children or not; it's only IVF treatments where there are restrictions. Given your length ttc and your erratic periods, I'd go to a GP and insist on a referral.

hi, Well I was originally told i had to wait 2 yrs ttc before they would start any tests (normally 12 months ttc), then when they did hubbys swimmers test and it came back low with no explanation, they've refused to even look at me. (Hubby had been on antidepressants for many years, and since coming off them in Aug, things are more or less back to normal, although gp refused to do a 2nd test or investigate cause of a low result. I actually got asked was I sure he hadn't had a sneaky vasectomy!)

I think when i go on Monday, I will insist on a referal. Any ideas how to ask for one without sounding rude, or is this a case of being stubborn? I was supposed to be refered for an ultrasound to see if I actually do have any ov cysts-that was sept and im still waiting.
