At least I am praying and trying to convince myself I am?

Lost baby at 15 wks 4 weeks ago today, 2days ago I felt the familiar symptoms so did a tesco test yest lunchtime which had a faint but visible line, did the same kind of test lunch time today and got another faint but visible line.

Have stupidly just done 2 eBay cheapies and the line is so faint you have to hold them up to the light and squint to try and see them. Am worried they may just be watermarks.

Wish I did not have such a obsession with peeing on them.

Anyway is it possible that I am testing positive from my last pregnancy?

I would say it is possible - the only thing to do would be to go to your GP and get him to run some blood tests to see if your levels are going up or down. I'm sorry for your loss xx

redridingwolf · 06/01/2012 15:29

don't know, I'm afraid, but hoping it is the result you want. really sorry for your loss.

GenericDietCola · 06/01/2012 15:33

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I had a mc at 12 weeks in April and 6 weeks later I got a positive pregnancy test (I thought I was pregnant again too, but I wasn't). I agree with Popcorn - go to the GP and get a blood test to quantify the hCG. If the level is really high, you are probably pregnant again, but in my experience I would guess you probably aren't. I'm sorry about this, but when it happened to me, it was hard having false hope and I would have preferred to know straight away that it was unlikely to be a new pregnancy.

I hope you will get your baby soon.

ifrustrated · 06/01/2012 15:58

Sad not really what I'm wanting to hear.

On the plus side until af turns up there is hope and I really do feel like I am getting implantation cramps.

Had them really bad this morning then had some old/brown blood when I went to the toilet that I'm hoping is implantation bleeding Grin

I'm afraid the longer you have been pregnant, the longer it takes for the hormone to leave your body. I was still getting a very faint positive two weeks after a misarriage at 9 weeks. So unfortunately I agree it is unlikely to be a new pregnancy, but it isn't impossible. You need to see if the level is going up. One way to do that would be with cb digi tests a week apart. Another way is to see your doctor again and ask for blood tests. Perhaps you are right after all! Good luck and sorry for your loss.

Missgiraffe1 · 06/01/2012 16:43

Sorry for your loss ifrustrated

As KitandKat said, as a general rule of thumb, the further on your pg was, the longer it takes for HcG to drop to non-pg levels. I had a MC at 9+2 and I tested 4 weeks 2 days afterwards (as still no AF) and got a +ve. Unfortunately, as the days went on the line got fainter then disappeared. It was obviously just hormones left over from MC.

So sorry, I know this is not what you want to hear, but I let myself get all excited at the thought of being pg again, and was really gutted when I realised what was happening. Of course, there is still a chance that you could be pg if you've been DTD, as not everyone follows the rules! I just think it's better to be prepared for both possibilities.

Wishing you loads of luck with next pg x

coccyx · 06/01/2012 16:51

I was told not to test until 6 weeks after miscarriage. Fingers crossed for you.

GenericDietCola · 06/01/2012 19:09

Sorry it's not what you wanted to hear and if you enjoy the feeling of hope, then that's great. Of course there's a chance you are right and I hope you are!

ifrustrated · 06/01/2012 19:18

Can I just ask though if it was left over from last pg would the level remain the same during the day or decrease like a normal early pregnancy does?

OP posts:
GenericDietCola · 06/01/2012 19:37

I imagine it depends on how dilute or concentrated your urine is, but if it is left over from your previous pregnancy, the hCG will drop over time, so if you do another test in a few days and the line is darker, that would suggest a new pregnancy. Good luck!

helenlouisey · 07/01/2012 10:31

I am so sorry for your loss, I think I would go to your GP on Monday and ask for a blood test to check your HCG levels, and maybe repeat the test a week later to check whether levels are rising or falling. Also maybe do another urine test tomorrow, which would be a couple of days after the first one and you should see a much darker line if it's a new pregnancy as the HCG will be rising.

From what I understand, and how my consultant explained it when I had a miscarriage is that your HCG levels need to get to below 5 usually closer to 0 before your cycle will start again, if you had a miscarriage 4 weeks ago it would take a few weeks at least for the levels to drop to near 0, probably longer given how far along you were, and then your cycle has to start from the beginning, so usually you would release an egg about 2 weeks after your levels have returned to close to 0 and then you would have the usual 2 week wait after that. I know it's probably not what you want to hear bit unless your levels return to 0 a day or so after your miscarriage I would have thought it unlikely, but it's still possible, that your pregnant with a new pregnancy. I really hope that it is a new pregnancy though, and if it's not, that you get your BFP soon, I know how hard it is waiting to get pregnant again after a miscarriage, and I really hope you don't have to wait too long.

X

Well I did 2 eBay cheapies this morning and there was the faintest line ever (took 2 so I could not convince myself 1 was faulty)

Just funny how I got two clear lines with tesco tests but barely a line with the cheapies which I thought were more sensitive.

Dh and I had lots of swi after the heavy bleeding had stopped then not so much the past few days as we had family staying!

Going to up the pace so to speak until af does arrive incase we still have a chance before it shows up then at least I will know where I stand for the next cycle.

Thank you for the advice everyone, will try and not let it get my down as I know it will happen sometime, and the longer it takes to happen I longer I have to look forward to squeezing my own little newborn again Grin

HELEN- so do you think that the fact I am still getting faint positives 4 weeks later may mean I have not ovulated yet?

OP posts:
helenlouisey · 07/01/2012 14:11

Hiya, I think there is a possibility you haven't ovulated yet, everyone is different though, I lost one baby at 7 weeks and took 4 weeks to ovulate and 6 weeks to get my period and I lost another baby at 13 weeks and took 5 weeks to ovulate, 7 weeks to get my period. I would carry on trying as you never know. Fingers crossed x

galwaygal · 07/01/2012 22:32

Hi, sorry to hear of your loss ifrustrated.

You can ovulate with hcg in your system, but most often when women miscarry the normal cycle restarts when the hcg from the m/c reaches less than 5. My m/c's have never affected my cycle, always ovulated 2 weeks after m/c, (sometimes concieving straight away again) even with m/c at 11 weeks I ovulated 2 weeks later, but I know I am unusual in this, ovulation is normally delayed following m/c's.

I assume you had a mmc as it was so far along, and the hcg levels would have been quite high. Even with low levels sometimes hcg can fall slowly. The usual rate is the opposite to the rise, eg halving approx every 48 hours, but this is not always the case, it can be slower. So the further along generally the higher the hcg level and thus the longer to decrease to zero.

It would still be very possible to be getting a positive test now from the m/c. As others have said retest in a few days and if it does not go negative then you need to go to the doctor to get blood tests to see if the levels are decreasing / increasing over 48 hours.

I think that there is a good chance that you might not have ovulated yet, but definitely if you are ttc immediately, assume you have not ovulated until proven otherwise! I hope a new pregnancy happens soon for you.

galwaygal · 07/01/2012 22:39

opps there was one m/c where I did not ovulate 2 weeks later, that was the one I reabsorbed rather than lost. I was only 6 weeks pg and it took nearly another 5 weeks for the hcg to reach zero, my levels fell very very slowly. I finally ovulated 2 weeks after my hcg reached zero with that one, and concieved again immediately.

Again, I hope you get your new pregnancy soon.

ifrustrated · 08/01/2012 09:45

Thank you galwaygal

I took another cheapie this morning and was negative so am just going to carry on swi and try and not stress, I have never had any problem falling pg before so fingers crossed it won't take long.

Could just kick myself though that after a good few weeks of lots of swi we had about 5 days off when family was here and from what I have read on this thread that may have been about the "right" time.

Then again I have no idea what my body is doing so only time will tell.

So sorry it turned out this way Ifrustrated
What kept me going after I had a similar experience were the positive stories on the Just MC and ready to TTC thread. It was very reassuring when the ladies started getting BFPs and progressing well in those pregnancies. I, myself, am now almost 24 weeks.
You WILL have your bundle of joy, you just have to ride out the WTF cycle and keep your chin up (and your knickers down) Grin Smile

All the best x
