Hi everyone. Joined mumsnet tonight for the first time as I'm feeling like I'm in limbo after some advice and would really appreciate peoples thoughts. I have 2 boys, ds1 is 5.10 and ds2 is 3.7. My dh and I have been TTC dc3 for nearly a year and it's just not happening. I had no issues concieving ds1 and ds2. I have no regular cycle so cannot predict ovulation Confused With my previous 2 pregnancies we were just lucky I guess and concieved straight away with both.

I would really welcome any feedback or if anyone else is in the same situation and wants to share then please do Smile

Have you always had irregular periods? That would be something you should get checked out really as it might be an indicator that something is up with your hormones. Make an appointment for a few weeks time, you'll have been trying for a year by then, and request that the doctor does the day 3-5 LH/FSH blood tests and also the test that shows if you are ovulating or not.

You could also buy really cheap ovulation tests off the internet. they are so cheap that it is quite affordable to test every single afternoon. You can use Amazon, Ebay, or the Home Health website to buy them 100 at a time.

No idea how old you are but it may be you just aren't as young as you were when ttc the other children, and it can take longer as you get older.

How old are you? I think the advice is to see your GP after 6 months if you are 35+ or after 12 months if you are under 35.

I bought ovulation sticks from ebay, they are really cheap and have been quite useful so far.

Thanks KatAndKit and HereKittyKitty

I am 32 Blush

I have always had an irregular cycle and can range from about 21 days to 51 days Confused. I had bought some ovulation tests back last year, but they were so pricey that I didnt use them for long. Will check out ebay and amazon for sure, hadnt thought of looking there before! Will prob need to order a huge supply and test daily throughout the month.

Thanks again :)

This is where I ordered mine from. I just got normal sensitivity in a 100 pack. They worked fine for me.

Do you have any other dc?

Do you have any issues relating to irregular cycle etc and have you seen your gp? I am planning a visit to mine if nothing happens soon.

Usually regular as clock work. It's quite heavy I have to say- not normally like this and feel grotty although my temperature has gone down for the last week and a half I have been like an oven.... And my boobs aren't as sore as they have been.

Many symptoms I suppose are the same Sad

I would see the GP asap.

OPK's are of no benefit or actual use at all if the menstrual cycle is consistently irregular or has been so for a long time; I note your cycles range from about 21 to 51 days. I would not be using OPKs at all in your particular circumstances.

Such problems are more often than not are caused by hormonal problems; the GP should do blood tests to see if there are any problems with the thyroid gland or if polycystic ovaries are to blame. A day 3 test would be a useful test for you so that your LH and FSH levels are compared and checked against each other.
