Any wise words re cycles after coming off pill? (bit of a moan - sorry)

I'm mainly posting this as I'm a bit fed up. Came off the pill (Yasmin) at end of October with intention of having one cycle before starting TTC, that cycle was a bang on average 28 day just like they had been whilst on pill. So, we started TTC in December and had lots of lovely SWI around what I roughly thought was the right time for ov. I was then 4 days late for AF last week (imagine my excitement!) but she showed up on Friday night after I'd taken about 6 tests and had really heavy bleeding for 2 days (normally lasts 4/5 days). There is NO WAY this could have been an implantation bleed, far too heavy (sorry, TMI).

So, if there is a question I guess it's 'has anyone else experienced this variable cycle length and odd AF length after coming off the pill? Is it normal?' I am totally prepared to accept I'm overthinking the issue completely.

Sorry for weird rant.

Yep - my first cycle off Yasmin was 36 days. In a year since then cycles have varied from 28 - 34 days.
My friend has only had 2 proper periods after being off Yasmin for a year - her doc said she's seen this happen before with Yasmin as it's a strong pill.

I think you have to accept that it can take a while for your cycles to get back to normal after the pill, and try not to get wound up about the unfortunate unpredictability of it - easier said than done, I know.

Hi, don't worry my cycles were also pretty random since coming off the pill, nine months on my last 3 cycles have been 30 days so I think they have finally sorted themselves out! Thank goodness I was sending myself crazy!! I used the ovulation predictor kits at first as I ovulate alot later than I thought I did and started taking pregnacare conception vitamins which I think helped regulate my cycles also. Good luck :-)

Thanks Laura, if we have no luck in a couple of months I think I'll get OPK or chart BBT and we are both taking conception multivits. Have you had your BFP? Good luck if not!

I wasn't on Yasmin, but I came off my pill in September - since then, have had cycles of 25, 30 and 27. I think on the whole, most women take a bit of time to regulate. I had the kind of pill you take continuously and didn't have a period in about four years. I feel your pain!

My DH is a personal trainer, and he went to a seminar about women's health/fitness. A doctor gave a lecture about how sugar can mess up your hormones via insulin levels, particularly oestrogen dominance, and messed up hormones are no good for anyone! I think it's worth reading up on. And another great reason not to eat sweets, haha!

I'm finding it really difficult - this month, we might have been off ovulation by a week because of not knowing how long the cycle will be. But we DTD five days interspersed in a seven day period that might possibly have been the window of opportunity (which would have been four or five days ago). Since then I've had period type stomach gripes and then a heavy weird feeling in my lower half. Might be trapped wind though ;) Dare I hope...?

No BFP yet :-( suppose I didn't really expect to until my cycles settled down, so really hoping with all my heart the it happens over the next couple months, I'm getting abit obsessed with it all to be honest and swore to myself I wouldn't get stressed about it and stay relaxed but no such luck!! Good luck to you too x

VeniVidiVino · 02/01/2012 19:35

Nothing wrong with hoping betty and I've got fingers crossed for you! I had no idea that hormones and insulin levels were linked in any explicit way so will try to cut down this month (after finishing Chiristmas choc natch!)

Thanks for the luck Laura I am a natural stresser/worrier too, here's hoping that we both get what we're looking for this year :) I can easily stay awake all night fretting about whether I locked my car door or put my keys in my bag so TTC is a big 2am worry (perhaps good training for baby - no sleep!). Joys!

Believe me - I'm no expert but would definitely advocate reading up on it! I want to do more myself - estrogen dominance sounds a bit un-cricket ;) But as far as I know, menstrual hormones estrogen and progesterone interact with insulin hormones, which are tied closely to blood glucose levels. Refined, processed sugar does have hormone-imbalance effects. The sheer amount of sugar we ingest daily without even realising it is scary so I try to keep an eye on it.

Best of luck to both you and Laura :)

Another one to let you know you're not alone (some help!). Came off Cerazette and almost immediately bled although without any crampy peTthen no AF for 53 days! Just in time for Christmas, lucky me.

When last came of the pill to TTC my periods regulated straight away and BFP on second month. Hoped we'd be as lucky again... Hmm
