Ewcm question

This is all going to be a bit TMI so bear with me.

Today is CD8. AF finished two days ago. I have copious stretchy mucous discharge but it is opaque (creamy/white). This happens every cycle and lasts for 3 days straight after AF. Then it dries up and I just get a bit of creamy discharge all the way up until AF again.

Is that EWCM? I thought it was supposed to be slippery and clear. I can't imagine how any swimmers would get through this stuff, it's too thick.

*sigh. Thanks for your advice ladies. I am trying to time things as I am prone to cystitis and I don't want to be DTD at all the wrong times.

some women don't produce much EWCM! What your describing does not sound like EWCM! How long are your cycles?

I use pre-seed to help the spermies as this mimics fertile CM as I have never seen any (although I have other problems!!). It might be worth getting some and using it around ov time to help them on their way Xmas Grin

I knew very little about discharge until reading the book "Taking charge of your fertility" - might be worth a look! If you have little obvious ewcm then why not try a different way to detect ovulation - temp charting of using ovulations tests?
I'd be very surprised is any discharge straight after af was ewcm.

How long is your cycle tak1ngchances?

What you describe could well be fertile cf, and it certainly sounds as if it is the most fertile cf that you get, even if it's not strictly ewcf. The 'egg-white' stuff doesn't have to be clear - it can be cloudy, so that's not a problem. The key factors are how 'wet' it makes you feel and how much it stretches. If you have a very 'wet' sensation and the fluid is very stretchy then those are both good signs. Fertile cf typically dries up a day or two before ovulation, and some women do ovulate early so you could, for instance, have a pattern of CD1-6: period; 7-9: fertile cf and then ovulating on day 10 or 11. If you cycle is quite short this is especially plausible.

Hope that helps!

My cycle is 26 to 27 days. The mucous is super dooper stretchy (it sort of hangs down in a rope after I've been to the loo. Sorry I know this is gross). I think I do ovulate early because when I have been for scans for cysts etc they have always been surprised by how thick my endometrial lining is early in my cycle.

Yes that is definitely ewcf, and you are very fertile right now! It sounds like you have a longish luteal phase too (probably 15 or 16 days) which is also good.

Btw the book mentioned above ("Taking Charge of Your Fertility") is really useful on all this stuff, even has lots of (slightly revolting) pictures. Good luck!

tak1ngchances · 29/12/2011 14:22

I really don't mind revolting pictures at all, so long as they're helpful! I will go have a look for that Taking Charge book in Waterstones today. I've got What to Expect before you're Expecting but I find it a bit vague and puke-inducing with all the cheesy "bundle of joy" stuff.
Maybe I should change my name from takingchances to takingcharge!!
Thanks v much all

You can get it on Amazon too, usually reduced; and I've noticed it in public libraries as well sometimes. It's a great book! I've used the method to avoid getting pregnant (successfully) for years; now in first few days of not-avoiding!
