Heavy Periods and fertility

Hi folks

For the last 5 months I have had very heavy bleeding during my AF. Have been to GP who says its probably just hormonal/stress related (fair enough was transferred to crap job for 3 months).

Does this mean that my days of fertility are over? I'm only 37 and was hoping for No2. (took 2 years on and off to make my dd!)

Does anyone have any experience of this??

Thanks

Lea :-)

I would think not ... it is just how quickly your endometrium goes .. if it was something to worry about in terms of blood amount then your GP would surely have picked up on it .. do you feel lousy too?

Why don't you chart for a few months and see if you can identify when you ovulate (see fertilityfriend.com / other threads)

Hi Lea

I was also going to ask if you had blood tests done. A crap job of three months duration is not necessarily the root cause.

Looks like GP did not mention fibroids at all, these can also cause heavy bleeding.

Would suggest if it continues you return to GP and insist on a referral to a gynae.

The general consensus seems to be that if you're over 35 and have been ttc without success for 6 months then a referral is in order.

I had very heavy periods for several years, and didn't do anything about it. It turns out it was fibroids, which apparently is a common cause of heavy bleeding. They were only diagnosed during my labour, when I had to have an emergency C-section as there was a fibroid directly under baby's head.

Fibroids can cause difficulty conceiving (although didn't in my case) and can also cause miscarriage, so I would ask for a referral to a consultant and ask for a hysteroctopy (when they insert a miniature camera in your womb to have a good look). I had this done after the birth to check I will be able to have more children. If you are TTC and have heavy periods I would definitely get this checked out.

Thanks folks - will speak to my GP and see how things go.
