Hi,

Sorry, I'm a little bit confused (punctuate!) -

Your period started on the 11th and finished on the 16th, is that right? You had sex with the other partner on the 16th, the day your period ended? And your cycles are 28-30 days apart?

KatAndKit · 22/12/2011 11:35

Haven't you asked this at least twice already?? (apologies if it is a new poster) I recognise this scenario.

Of course you ovulated "late" because your cycle is longer than the standard 28 days.

Your baby was probably conceived around about the 31st July. I am due on the 11th April and I know the baby was conceived on the 21st July due to using ovulation tests. Sperm can live for about 5 days or so inside you. So the earliest this baby could result from is about the 25th July.

This is at least the third, and definitely the last time I am answering this question. Nobody can be 100% sure about the paternity by going off ultrasound dates, but given what you have said about when your period was and the due date you have been given by your ultrasound, you almost certainly have nothing to worry about.

A forum search shows that this is in fact the third time you have started this thread.

But what is the point in asking the same thing again? The answer isn't going to change. Also nobody has actually called you a tart, you are the only one who has used that word. If you are so worried about the paternity then you'll have to have it tested after the birth. Otherwise I'd just assume the baby is your partners.

Sorry i asked again because some one had told me although i finished my period on 16th july that you can concieve at anytime in your cycle.

Well you can't. It's just that normally you don't know when you are going to ovulate as you can't see what is going on inside. So you can not be sure of being safe if you are not tracking your ovulation at all. But you can not conceive at any point. You can only conceive from sex that happened in the five or six days up to and including ovulation.

But you are different. you have had an ultrasound scan to date your pregnancy. Going on the due date from your scan, you can be reasonably confident (plus or minus five days or so) of when the conception took place. Never 100% sure of course, only a dna test will tell you that.
