Exactly WHEN do you ovulate - TMI in this post!

Sorry for the TMI but I would like to know what's happening with my body!

I am day 9 of my cycle and my period. I always thought that you ovulate day 14 (or thereabouts) but increasingly I have been getting pain and a LOT of mucusy discharge at anything from between day 7 and 9. We have an 18 month old DD who was conceived with IVF (2nd attempt) and have been trying naturally for the last 8 months or so.

Basically has anyone found IVF screws up their cycle, or does pregnancy and childbirth do that for you? Do you ovulate when you get the pain and discharge? WHEN is the best time to have sex, before, during or after this couple of days?

You usually ovulate 12-16 days before your next period. How long are your cycles?

LinusVanPelt · 20/12/2011 17:59

It really can vary a lot from person to person. We'd been ttc dc2 for six months, making a special effort Wink around day 14, with no luck. I started tracking properly with a Clearblue monitor, and it turns out that I don't typically ovulate until around day 18 or 19. My luteal phase (between ovulation and the first day of my period) is only about ten days long, which is pretty short and may make conceiving more difficult.

I was disappointed to find that out, but I'm glad I know because at least now we're trying at the right time of the month for me. And if it doesn't happen soon, we can look into medication to lengthen my luteal phase. It's better to know than to pin all your hopes on a random day that may be meaningless to your own personal cycle.

exactly 28 days - which is VERY unusual for me. I should also say I have endometriosis, hence the IVF the first time around.

I always ovulate between days 14-16 of my cycle. I have noticed a pattern since I have been charting. I get a few slight ov twinges towards the end of my period bleed (usually sometime between days 4 and 8 of my cycle), then around days 11/12, I start getting fertile CM, then stronger ov pains and bloating around days 14/15/16. I've found charting really helpful for getting to know my cycle well.

Day 17 always get a stitch like cramp for a few hours then it eases. Seems to alternate each side. Mucas plug goes just before it. Boobs get sore about a week later. They stop about 48 hours before the bleeding starts between day 29 and 31

I usually get the kind of mucus you're describing about two days before my charts suggest I ovulated. I have a cycle that varies between 25-30 days and usually ovulate between days 12-15.
I would recommend reading taking charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler (you can get it on Amazon) to help you understand your body signs better to help with ttc.

It's worth noting that you don't necessarily ovulate the same time each cycle

LizziePizzie · 23/12/2011 10:20

So the mucus is before you ovulate - I thought it was during or after...
