NHS Guidance on thyroid levels when ttc

We've been ttc for almost a year with not a whisper of a BFP, and I have a 6-monthly endo appointment on Wednesday.

I want to discuss ttc with him, but I expect that he will want to discharge me as my levels have been relatively stable for the past year. I can't find the bit of paper with my history written on it (typical!) but it's been wavering between .3 and 4 iirc.

I keep reading guidance that says women ttc should have a TSH between 1-2, but I can't find any NHS guidance to that effect. Does anyone know where I can find this written in black and white, something I can print off and take? Or have any other words of advice?

Thank yooooou :)

Hi Deckthehalls. I have lived with thyroid issues for years and would definitely (in my non-professional, Dr Google-heavy experience!) concur that a TSH of between 3 and 4 is too high at any time. But this is not usually backed up by NHS normal levels. I personally find I feel sluggish at anything over 3. At 3.85 last year I felt like I was walking through mud.

I can't find anything with the NHS but Mary Shomon is an American thyroid patient advocate who has written a lot of books and done a lot of research on the subject and she says the following:

thyroid.about.com/library/weekly/aa050199.htm

Incidentally I have always found it easy to get pregnant (my levels are generally around the 1.0 mark) but it has been miscarrying that has been my problem. Don't let this freak you out as it is not the case for all thyroid patients by any means. Do you know if you have raised thyroid antibodies?

Thanks freelance. I'm a bit odd - whenever I feel like I'm wading through mud my bloods have come back fine, and whenever I feel fine I've got a TSH of 10-20! Hmm

I'll get my latest results tomorrow, but my antibodies have never been shown to be raised, and my fT3 and fT4 have been fine to date. I'm hoping my lovely doctor will be able to discuss it in more detail tomorrow in relation to ttc, but I usually see the trainee (not sure of the technical term) iykwim, so I'm not sure how expert he'll be with fertility.
