Confused by day 3 results!

Hi
I've been ttc now for over a year. Day 21 bloods ok, apart from slightly anaemic and low vitamin b12. Pelvic ultrasound shows appearance of PCO but GP does not think I have PCOS.
I got my day 3 blood results today but will not see doctor until after Xmas.

FSH is 6, LH 11 and oestradiol is 92. Does this mean anything to anyone? Dr google has me worrying about early menopause. I'm only 30!
Thanks

Hi pcos you can get lh to FSH ratio of 3:1 or above yours is 2:1. Both LH and FSH look ok to me. I guess you are talking in IU/L? for FSh reference ranges 1-11 in follicular and luteal phase, 6-26 ovulation, 30-118 postmenopauseal. LH 0.5-14.5 follicular and luteal phase (17-75 post menopausal). oestradiol early follicular phase day 5 7-550 that is in pmol.
So as I said if they are in those units looks ok not menopausal

Cupcakes

All very much consistent with polycystic ovaries I am sorry to say, not menopause. Leave Dr Google alone!!!.

GP should now refer you to a gynae at a subfertility unit as you have been ttc for over a year now. This is not a problem for a GP to try and treat/mess around with in ignorance.

With a day 3 test the LH and FSH levels should always be compared against each other; yours is showing a usual LH/FSH type imbalance (i.e too much LH and not enough FSH) seen in polycystic ovaries. Also your ultrasound showed cystic follicles on your ovaries. BTW did the ovaries appear larger than "normal" (walnut) size, if so this is yet another indicator of PCO. There is a fine line between having PCO and the full blown syndrome.

Your hormone levels fit a PCO profile to a tee.

Thanks for your replies Bugs and Attilla. I don't know the units they are in as I have just seen the results on screen at gp's reception. I was concerned as the receptionist said GP was keen to see me over these results but could only offer me an appointment on the 23rd. I'm at work that day and the next appointment is in January.
I'm a bit Angry at GP as he didn't want to do day 21 tests and he really didn't want to do the day 3. Had to argue with him for them. Also as I'm a nurse (paediatric and know very little about fertility), he often doesn't explain anything. I openly tell him I don't know anything (am beginning to suspect neither does he!).

Anyway thanks for taking the time to reply, I found the information on the web very contradictory which was stressing me out. I have been concerned about PCOS for a while as I do suffer with acne and struggle with my weight. I'm probably slightly overweight in terms of BMI and I have a strict diet and exercise regularly. Periods are regular ish cycles between 29 to 36 days.

Attilla I don't know about the walnut shape as got very little feedback from the ultrasound.

Thanks again and sorry for such a long post Smile

Hi cupcakes. My FSH was 7 and my LH was 11 and I was told that along with the scan that showed that I had PCO, that these blood test results confirmed that I had pcos. I have no other symptoms (not overweight, no excess hair, no acne, periods not irregular or missing). Do you know what your testosterone level was? This is sometimes high with pcos although mine was in the normal range. If you have been trying for a year then your GP should refer you to a fertility specialist now so I would push for that. Don't be alarmed if you get a diagnosis of pcos, it is fairly common and there is lots they can do to force you to ovulate if this turns out to be the problem. If you want to chat to others in a similar position who have been trying for a while, then the ttc for 10 months plus thread is a great place. Good luck!

Hi Mrsden,
I'm going to push for a referral at my appointment. I really think I've reached the end of the line with my GP. I think I will come join you on the 10 months plus thread. I've read a your thread a few times but have really been burying my head in the sand with regards to length of time we've been ttc. Denial is a wonderful thing Grin
