I had the injection 3 months to this date, I was told to stay on a good contraceptive until the three months was over as getting pregnant within that 3 months would result in the baby becoming brain damaged.

me & DP are scared something bad may happen and are wondering how much longer did other people wait 'just to be safe ' for ttc????

From what I've read, normal waiting time is 1-2 months -- so 3 should be plenty. The GP wouldn't advise 3 months if it wasn't safe x

really 1-2 I was told 3

"...you should not become pregnant for at least a month after having your rubella jab."

difficulties are they going to check your immunity pre conception? Think I would ask for it if I was you before tcc incase you have not converted. Otherwise safe now, The risk is as it is a live virus in the vaccine so can affect unborn.

difficulttimes · 17/12/2011 09:02

I didnt know about immunity tests no eek, I have waited exactly to the date 3 months

What does not converted mean?

Some drs test immunity when you are ttc as the immunity can wear off if even if you have had the vaccine. I had it at school when I was about 12 and I was still immune when tested this year as part of fertility investigations.

If you are worried about coming into contact with german measles when pg you could ask the GP if they will test you but it seems a bit pointless to me so soon after vaccination. I can't remember the last time I heard of someone I knew having german measles anyway, so it wasn't something I was bothered about. I only had the test because it was "compulsory" as part of the hospital's fertility investigation blood tests. At my age there was no way I was taking 3 months out of ttc to have the vaccine for something for which I am very low risk, so it was a complete waste of money but it wasn't my choice! I might have felt differently if I worked with children or something.

Not converted. Some people when they have vaccines do not get immunity with first and sometimes subsequent injections. So your gp can test to see if you are immunhe. Rubella is out and about I am afraid. You will have converted by now so can test now. So if you want to be safe get gp to check should be on NHS if not too worried just go for it.

if it has been 3 month baby would be fine you just need to decided whether to find out if your immunity to rubella is now ok pre conception or when they do the routine tests in pregnancy. Have fun trying
