Hi there, feeling a bit glum and wondering whether anyone has any advice. My DS is 16 months old and I haven't had a period since he was born - I gave up breastfeeding completely over 2 months ago (although to be honest I'd pretty much given up by 12 months) and nothing since. I have always wondered whether I have PCOS as I have very irregular periods and the ultrasonographer said when I had both my baby scans said by ovaries where very large and covered in cysts. I stopped using contraception 6 months ago, I did a preg test a few weeks ago which was negative. DS was conceived relatively quickly after coming off the pill with very irregular cycles. I've always wanted a small gap between children and feel this is slipping away from me. Do I just wait for AF to appear or is it worth seeing the GP and can they do anything to kick-start them? If anyone has any experience or advice it would be gratefully received! Thanks x

Go and see the GP - ask for a referral after what they found on your scan. No point waiting for months only to be told something you might have already have known.

I agree with iggly you need further medical investigations. A happy story, my friend has pcos, she didn't have a period for two years. She was about to start clomid and because it was new year and she was planning to drink copious champagne cocktails she thought she'd test just in case. She now has a gorgeous little boy :)

Hi vicky,

re your comment:-

"have always wondered whether I have PCOS as I have very irregular periods and the ultrasonographer said when I had both my baby scans said by ovaries where very large and covered in cysts".

PCOS is very common; around 1 in 5 women have polycystic ovaries.
That could certainly indicate PCOS; apart from the irregular periods polycystic ovaries too are larger than normal (walnut) size and the ovaries can be covered in cystic follicles.

Do seek medical advice asap and if GP is unsure ask at that point for a referral to a gynae. You need a diagnosis first and foremost.
