Having tested positive last week and worked my dates at either 5 or 9 weeks, last period was only a very light day so questionable. I started spotting over the weekend, got up this morning and there was quite a bit if blood which has continued today, about normal period flow. Got a few cramps but nothing major.

Managed to get a drs appointment at 5.40 this evening.

Feeling pretty crap to be honest, had a few tears and resigned myself to what is probably coming.

Had to let my boss know too, she was great but because of the bloody strikes tomorrow if I am off I'm going to need a drs note. To be honest I think I'll go in whatever the outcome.

Sorry to be so down, just feeling a little lost right now while my other half snoozes on the sofa! Men!

I'm really sorry Sassee. But don't give up hope - I've had a m/c at 6 weeks and I remember the blood as being copious and bright red (sorry if tmi) so it may well be that you are still pg. Good luck xx

HaveALittleFaithBaby · 29/11/2011 17:21

while you wait for appointment.

Sassee · 29/11/2011 19:05

Back from the Drs. Not much help really. Been told to go back if it gets heavier, lasts longer than 10 days or I get pain or a fever.

The hospital won't be interested at the moment apparently.

So we sit and wait, assume I'm miscarrying and if my period doesn't arrive in a month or so do another test.

It was all a tad blasé for my liking!

Feeling quite gutted and very sorry for myself! Didn't realise quite how much I wanted this until it happened!

Thank you for your kind words.

I'm sorry you had such an awful doctor. I think they forget that it mught be everyday for them but not for us! I had a similar experience at 9 or 10 weeks, my midwife was fab and arranged an appointment for a scan the next day. Don't wait 10 days if it is still happening demand to be seen. Good luck xx

Uglymush · 29/11/2011 19:24

Should have added, I didn't MC and am now 5 months pregnant - hope this helps x

Lucyx · 29/11/2011 19:52

Hi Sassee. Just wanted to say sorry for what you're going through. I had a mmc in Sept and like you I found that the drs were quite blasé about it.

Really sending you lots of sympathy xxx

scentednappyhag · 29/11/2011 19:54

I'm sorry you're having a tough time here Sad but just wanted to share that I had bright red blood for about a week when I was 16 weeks pregnant, and now have a very healthy one year old DD. Never got to the bottom of why it happened or what it was, but don't lose hope- it could just be yet another scary bit about pregnancy that no one tells you about. Thinking of you.

Sassee · 29/11/2011 20:00

And now the text to say my step sister has just given birth to a baby girl, pleased for her of course, but really, today?!

Sorry sassee, its almost like you are abandoned with no one showing any interest doesnt it.
Truth be told there is very little the medical profession can do at this point. This is a VERY neglected area unfortunatly.
I would advise that you make an appointment for a scan to ensure that everything is gone and that your uterus is returning to a normal state following mc.
Also, ensure that you have some very good painkillers as ime, it can be very very painful. Did your GP offer any pain killers? Did they offer you any advice leaflets even?

Sassee · 29/11/2011 20:04

No pain killers, no leaflets and definitely no scan!!

Down on the south coast, I think my nearest might be Basingstoke, I may give them a call and see what they say. Thanks

Aw Sassee, what a tough day for you.

Mind you ... Has anyone else been given a leaflet from the miscarriage association? I was appalled to see a pic of a broken Russian doll on the front cover when I was given it after my mmc. It felt as tho they were telling me that I was broken and that's why I lost my baby. Terrible design!!!

I'm sure it's hard to get these things right, but it feels as tho some basic thought and training needs to be developed so that people in Sassee's position today are at least offered some comfort.

lucyx i agree, its crap but its got info in it, fwiw.
As i said, its a very neglected area sadly.

Its awful that they can just send sasee away with absolutely no info, no advice, no follow up and in limbo.

Lucyx · 29/11/2011 20:36

Hey, what does fwiw stand for? ;-)

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 29/11/2011 20:55

That's awful treatment Sassee, I'm so sorry that you are going through this. :(

I've twice had to contact my doc when I suspected a MC. The first at just 5 week, the 2nd at 11 weeks. On both occasions I was told to go to hospital for a scan (the apt was made by my docs for the next day for the 5 week loss, and I was told to go straight to A&E for the 11 week one). As oflip mentioned, this should be done at the very least to ensure that everything has come away properly.

However, as many have said it may be a false alarm, but in any event look after yourself!

oflip · 29/11/2011 21:33

fwiw= for what its worth Smile

PANCHEY · 29/11/2011 22:37

Hi Sassee
I am sorry that you are going through this. If it helps I bled from about 7weeks to 16 weeks with my first (who is now 6) and did similar with my second who is (2.5).

I had similar treatment at the GP first time around, so went to A&E and explained and was sent through to the EPAU. I did similar during my second pregnancy.

Please note that if you do get a scan and you are about 5 weeks you may not be able to see a lot ( and for this reason they may not actually scan immediately). Having a scan and only seeing a sac with nothing in is pretty hard, but if you do this could be since everything is too small to see and not that there is nothing there.

Xxxx

PANCHEY · 30/11/2011 07:48

Where I had my scan the second time around they would not do a ore six week scan,

goingmadtrying · 30/11/2011 08:58

Morning,

I bled at around 8 weeks with both my previous pregnancies around af time, I think your body can sometimes get confused your actually pregnant. I went to EPU both times and had an early scan, at least you can then move on instead of being in limbo, I would contact them directly and ask them if you can have a scan to know for sure.

Good luck :(

GenericDietCola · 30/11/2011 10:02

Just to add that if you can't self-refer to your EPU (you can't at my local one), you can go to A&E and they will at least examine you internally and probably also refer you for a scan. It's important to know what's happening, not just for your peace of mind, but if you are sadly having a mc, you will need to know when it is complete. I know this is upsetting, but if it doesn't all happen naturally, there is a risk of infection and you may require treatment to complete the process.

I'm so sorry you are having this worry and I hope you have a healthy baby in the end. Take care.
