Just been told the doctors think I've got this, does anyone know much about it, and how and whether it affects fertility?

Thanks.

I'm sorry I know nothing about it. How did they discover it, what is it? Have you looked on the web for info? Hope someone can help Nerthus.xx

I just did a quick web scan and it doesn't look as if it does. It is NOT endometriosis.

motherinferior · 06/11/2003 10:01

N, did they give you any further info on this?

Don't know much yet. I'll know the implications next week when I see the consultant. I shouldn't really know anything at all except I caught a glimpse of my notes at the hospital when they were writing stuff about me as I was having some tests. Probably shouldn't have done but hard not to when they're writing it in front of your nose. Maybe there's a good reason for most doctors having dreadful handwriting.

Adenomyosis is a kind of endometriosis-type thing, but it's contained to within the womb only: some of the womb lining grows inwards and sticks around in the muscle wall of the womb rather than being shed whenever you have a period. In endometriosis proper the lining stuff grows all over the place as well as in the womb itself.

What I've read so far on the web is rather equivocal about whether it affects fertility or not. It does if it's bad, I think. It tends to affect women from about 35-40 and it's much more common in women who HAVE had a child, which I haven't, so I'm hoping they're wrong at the hospital of course, and am trying my hardest not to get too worried till I've talked about it with the doctor. I was asking about it on here as I've never heard of anyone who's had it before and most of the other women on here have had a child or two and so I wondered if anyone else had had any experiences of it.

I do sympathize with you cos i am in the same situation. I am 31 and have never had children or terminated any pregnancy before. Something else must be one of the causes then. yeah i have also wondered if it does affect fertility. so far what i have read on the internet says it does not necessarily affect fertility but if pregnancy occurs it MAY not be carried full term. I understand there might be risks of miscarriage.

I do hope you get some answers from your consultant and wish you well.

I have it too. I think it can affect fertility but im not too sure. i have just had my daughter 8 months ago and it only took 3 months to conceive after stopping the pill. the pain and heaviness has come back too and ive been told the only cure is a hysterectomy

i take tranexamic acid and mefenamic acid. and i also have extensive adhesions from previous surgery (lost 2pints of blood when i had my c section in april)

i was told by my gynae that there would be no problem conceiving. i dont know if it depends on the size and position but just be positive when the time comes
