clinic have been a bit vague and said take a few paracetemol just before, that's it, no other advice.
Has anyone had one recently? Can anyone talk me through the process?

Hi - on the ttc 10+ months a few of us have gone for this and no one has had a particularly horrid experience. My nurse wanted me to take co-codamol though as she said paracetamol might not be that helpful, if I was in pain. As it happened, the consultant couldn't get the catheter in and I left none the wiser about my tubes! I also read to take your own towel for any of the contrast that leaks out after. I hope it goes well for you x

It's not so bad iirc, feet in stirrups in my case, swabbed all around the outside of the groin area with saline with antiseptict in it then a tube inserted into the womb, no pain until the dye went in then it was just crampy, bit of a shock more than anything else really.

I breathed through it. Took seconds. quick x ray and I was off the table and getting dressed.

I had very light spotting afterwards and an afternoon on the sofa eating cake.

That night I found I couldnt sleep on my side because I could feel the dye running into the abdominal cavity and that hurt more than the actual test.

I had to sleep with my feet over the edge of the mattress as my heels hurt from lying on my back.

I have to say I would have another one with no concerns at all.

In fact I find smear tests more invasive than that was. Everyone was lovely and because I was anxious they told me after I was dressed that everything was clear.

Dont worry anything medical is usually better than you imagine ime.

Hello
I had one last week - wasn't scary. I took 2 x paracetamol, 1 x diclofenac and 1 x tramadol - but I'm a wimp. The worst bit for me was the sheer amount of time I had the dildo cam in - 45 mins nearly - felt a bit violated afterwards :-(. Seems like some centres do the hycosy under x-ray and some under dildo cam. As Fluffycoud said, I had some cramping which was just like period pain - no worse than that - and with a bit of breathing it calmed right down. Hope all goes well in your case x

Er, WTF is dildocam?!

dildocam=internal ultrasound. Basically an u/s probe shaped like a dildo which they cover with a condom & lube and then insert, to get a close up view of your ovaries and womb. The good thing is that they can get a good view and you don't need to fill your bladder first. It's no biggie. I've had a few.

ok, think I have had a couple of them before, not too worried about that.
Thanks for sharing your experiences, I just read somewhere that someone was really bloated and uncomfortable after this procedure
Fluffy, they told you the results there and then?

Really not looking forward to this.
I know I'm being a wimp, I just want it over.
I'm not even scared it's going to hurt, not sure what the bloody hell I'm scared about.
Doesn't bode well for any future ivf!!

How did it go witherhills?

witherhills · 30/11/2011 08:18

It was absolutely fine, nothing to worry about, staff were lovely, felt nothing at all.
And best news is that tubes were fine!

Thanks for the handholding!
