Ggglimpopo, that's good to know. Congratulations for your 1 yr old. What type of progesterone where you on and how were you taking it at mid cycle and during the first 12 weeks of pg? Any other medication where you on?

peepee · 05/01/2006 09:12

Thanks for your replies.

I have had 5 m/c's in just over a year. The 5th pregnancy I took progesterone daily, baby aspirin and heparin jabs daily. this did not work.

I have now been told to start taking progesterone suppositries on day 18 of my 28 day cycle. One to be inserted in the morning and the other at night. This is done for 10days (upto day 28) then I have to test for pregnancy. If its + I continue the progesterone and will have to go into hospital for a hcg jab twice a week. If its - I have to stop and continue the cycle again.
I have been doing this for 3 mths now and have not had a positive result. I am sure I did not ovulate last month. I was testing and didn't get a positive result. We were very active and trying thruout the month.
The profs have told me that taking the progesterone should make it more difficult for me to conceive. Did this happen to you guys? How long were you taking progesterone for b 4 conception and why were you given it. I am taking it because I am too fertile and the eggs I produce are probably weak due to me producing so many. The progesterone is supposed to slow done the release and allow only the strong ones to be fertilized.............

Any ideas?

I don't have any experience of taking progesterone, but when we were ttc my hormones were tested and I was told that I had low progesterone and was not ovulating regularly. I started having acupuncture as I had read quite a lot of research about the success in levelling out hormones. After 2.5 years trying (a year of acupuncture), I got pregnant. We now have a 14 month old dd.

I realise that this is different from your experience, but just wondered whether you might consider looking into acupuncture?

Good luck Peepee.

There's also a really good book called "Natural Solutions to Infertility (Getting pregnant and staying pregnant)" by Dr Marilyn Glenville.

She has some pretty harsh regimes to follow, but it worked for us

We gave up alcohol, caffeine, red meat, cow dairy products (only ate goat's milk/butter/cheese), took loads of vitamins and supplements etc. It was a hard couple of years, but I felt so much better once I started taking control and stopped waiting for medical things to be "done" to me.

peepee · 05/01/2006 20:18

Thanks for the advice........ I stopped caffeine and alcohol about 10 months ago(lapsed New Years Eve only) and am taking lodsa vitamins. Will check out the book though

Well done Peepee. I completely understand about the New Year lapses! I just has to be done sometimes doesn't it. Forgive me for asking, but does your dp do the same things re no alcohol, caffeine, lots of vitamins etc?

It turned out that there were problems on my dp's side of things too so we both followed the book. However, I got pregnant 6 months after dp finally gave up drinking too. (he was already doing acupuncture, chinese herbs, no caffeine etc. but found the no alcohol thing really hard!)

DH has cut down on lots of vices but we both underwent tests at the hospital and were told that he was fine. I am the problem apparently. I have been told that the possible reason behind the m/c's is that where most women have a fertile period of about 2 days where they can get pregnant mine is a lot longer, hence getiing p/g 5 times in 1 yr.( I am very fertile, not a good thing) But because of this the eggs I produce are weaker than normal..........
The progesterone is supposed to make it harder for me to conceive and theoretically when I do it should be a strong egg that gets fertilised.

Oh poor you Peepee - I've never heard of that before! I can't even begin to imagine how hearbreaking it must be to have one m/c, let along 5 in a year. I've only ever been pregnant once and it resulted in dd! However, it did take me 2 and a half years to get pregnant in the first place. Both ways are crap!

Keysha · 06/01/2006 09:47

Hi Peepee, am here. Sorry to hear about your m/cs and i do really know how it feels having had 3 m/c myself in the 3.5 years of TTC our first. My last m/c was early November and i was on progesterone then. As of today, i don't know the biggest problem behind all these miscarriages though am a PCOSer. I wonder if it is just hormonal imbalance or more than that. Peepee, is this ur first?

Littlefish - thanx for all your advice. Last year I did try the natural remedy but didn't assist with my irregular cycles until when i had on ovarian drill. I have been living free of caffeine and alcohol (except Xmas and New Year) for the past 1 year. I'm only on folic acid. Do you guys recommend any other? My DH is on multivitamins and for him to stay away from alcohol is a bit hard. I would love to have a look of that book too!

Runtus- if you are still there. I'm so glad to know your are doing well as i have been checking on you in the ante-natal thread. I did send you a msg in the other PCOS thread. As for me, I'm back to the TTC road. Hope all will go well.

runtus · 06/01/2006 10:02

Great to hear from you Keysha, glad you back on the TTC horse and not letting it get the better of you..............your time will come babe, I can feel it.

I'm doing fine, thanks so much for keeping an eye on me.............really feeling good for the future at the moment.

I'll keep an eye on you in the coming months and let me know what happens - I've got everything crossed for you.

peepee · 06/01/2006 10:03

Keysha, sorry to hear of your losses.

I have no kids and have only been trying for just over a year. Time is against us though. I am 37 and DH 39. Are you attending a recurrent m/c clinic?

OP posts:
Littlefish · 06/01/2006 10:04

Just remembered, I also saw a homeopath! I can't remember what remedies I took though.

My dh took lots of zinc, we both took omega 3, 6 &9 (fish oils), both took vitamin C and something else!

I'll have to go and look in the cupboard. I'll be back later today.

peepee · 08/01/2006 12:31

Thankx for your reply guys! I?m experiencing problem to post on here. Runtus thank you so much girl. Remember us in your prayers! Enjoy every bit of the pg and make the most of it!

Peepee, i know what you mean about the time scale. I just turned 35 and DH will be 40 soon. I have been TTC since 31.5....I wonder if it will get better....I just pray. Unfortunately, where we are there isn't a recurrent m/c clinic. I'm still seeing my RE, who is giving my case his very best. Let's hope next time will be full term. What about you? How are they treating you at the recurrent clinic?

Littlefish - thankx alot.I have heard so much about how zinc is helpful for men. I should explore further on that. Will appreciate more input on supplements.
